Blues Linked With Wales International James Wednesday, 27th Aug 2025 13:36 Town are reported to be rivalling Wrexham for ex-Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James, who is currently with Rennes in France.
L’Equipe revealed the Red Dragons were keen on the 21-year-old Wales international, who is available for sale, last week when Serie A Parma were linked with a loan move.
According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Blues have contacted Rennes, from whom they signed Azor Matusiwa earlier in the summer, but with the Welsh side currently having made a larger offer.
The player is said to be willing to speak to both clubs with discussions planned prior to the weekend.
James came through the academy ranks at Birmingham and went on to make 54 starts and 50 sub appearances, scoring 10 goals, before moving to Rennes for £4 million last summer.
The Hereford-born schemer has won 20 full caps with Wales having made his debut in 2023.
Elsewhere, former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill is considering a £100,000-a-week deal with Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab, according to Sky Sports.
Brownhill is reported to have held discussions with two Premier League clubs, while Town, Leicester and Southampton are claimed to have shown interest in the 29-year-old, although early summer links with the one-time Preston man were dismissed.

Very mobile, v good player, certainly the right area of the pitch.., so short in that double pivot it’s bizarre. This, Flynn or Hackney would be ‘pivotal’.

Was one of the best players on the pitch when we played Birmingham 2 seasons ago (and was only 19 at the time), including a goal at Portman Road. We were linked with him last summer going into the Prem - was disappointed that never happened even at that level, so I'd be well up for adding him to our squad in the Championship.

It’s certainly an area of the team that we need to strengthen. Sounds like a decent player. Downes would be a brilliant signing but we appear to have moved away from him. Excellent at PR two weeks ago and has the skill set we are lacking and need.

Would be an excellent signing and hopefully a proven goal scorer to follow and we are getting there.

He'll go to Wrexham, its nearer home.

No one is forced to read (or comment) on these links. Some of us quite enjoy reading them. If this link was true then normally we'd win this race, but the Wales/Wrexham thing might just win him over, even if it is just smoke and mirrors.

Sorry Mariner I down voted you by mistake. Agree with what you say

Bergholt Blue - not sure being near to home is his biggest criteria if he joined Rennes!

Why are Rennes selling players only after a year of being there? (Matisuwa now James) both you would have thought long term...are they in financial trouble? Noticed he had 23 appearances for them last season and 0 goals and 1 assist, hardly inspiring.

This is a re-run of last years window, with not getting targets and then panic buying, look how that went!!!

ITFC 2024 It would be easier to accept if we were provided with some sort of explanation as to why these proposed deals seem to just fade away into thin air as if they never existed in the first place. I find it all a bit condescending.
itfc2024 added 15:03 - Aug 27
poet me to this has been a frustrating window and I agree the club should let the fans know why these bid seem to go in and never get rejected but nothing happens for weeks like whats the issue this Norwegian wanna come to England so why not push this deal though quickly

Obviously trying to squeeze all the value out of the obvious scouting that's gone on in France... Did we take in a couple of French games last season to 'extend' our European reach. Certainly seems that way...

Why bother with any of these signings, they won't play until Christmas, because lack of fitness, getting to know the system/integration or injured in first week. !!!!

Seems a steady player, but just as a back up I think. But Brownhill, £100,000 per week, really. Have the Saudi's gone completely mad

I would rather we heard zilch and then had signed someone rather than these constant boring so called rumours. I know papers and the like have to fill their pages but it just gets a tad tiresome reading day after day after day that Town have enquired after so and so. My sincere hope is that we ain't working our way through the A to Z of players and end up with Z just because we have failed for whatever reason to sign our first, second, third, fourth, fifth choice player.
