Town Tipped to Renew Azeez Interest
Sunday, 17th May 2026 17:51

Town are reported to be ready to renew their interest in Millwall forward Femi Azeez.

The Blues made a number of bids for the 24-year-old in January which were rebuffed by the Lions, the highest of which would have been a new record sale for the South Londoners, surpassing the £14.5 million Crystal Palace paid for Romain Esse.

Now, according to Alan Nixon, Town are heading the race for Azeez, eyeing a potential move for £15-£20 million and wanting to get the deal done quickly.

The link comes as little surprise, indeed TWTD reported last week that Town returning for Azeez would be on the cards this summer.

Speaking about the one-time Reading man in February, Blues boss Kieran McKenna said: “Femi is a player that the club have identified for a while. He is a really good player, who has some really different qualities to the players we have in the building.

“We said we had to use this window to do everything we could to improve this squad in any way possible. He is a player the club thought could take us forward. In terms of bids and stuff like that, I am not across that and it is not my area.”

Aston Villa have also been linked, while Millwall, who lost out on automatic promotion to the Blues and then were defeated by Hull City in the play-off semi-finals, are claimed to have put a £30 million price on his head.

London-born Azeez was with Watford’s youth set-up before dropping into non-league with Northwood, Wealdstone and Hanwell Town (loan) before joining the Royals in 2019.

After five years with the Berkshire side during which time he had a stint on loan at Bracknell, he moved on to Millwall in August 2024 for a reported £1 million.

Cherry picking best of championship was a poor recruitment strategy last time around. Surely we aren’t going to repeat the same mistake this time

Doubt very much that is what we intend to do!

No Thankyou, we need to be aiming for better players than him if we are serious about staying up. He is capable of the odd bit of brilliance granted but we need proven premiership quality. If we make these kind of signings throughout the summer it will prove that no lessons have been learnt from our previous visit to the promised land. I how this link is proven to be just gossip.

He’s a good player, but this is exactly what we did last time and we weren’t good enough to stay in the league. We need to be looking wider than just championship and relegated premier league players.

AJW1971, my thoughts precisely which I've aired a number of times. I'm not saying there simply aren't any players in the Championship that can comfortably make the step up to the PL, but there aren't many, hence why they are in the Championship! If our recruitment team truly believe someone from there is definitely good enough, well we'll see, but I say Caveat Emptor!

I'm not convinced by Azeez. Last time, the 2 players who adapted best were graduates of the elite academies. But in McKenna we trust.

If we're going to be paying £20m+ for a right sided attacker, who was playing in the Championship last season, I'd perfer that we make a move for Abdul Fatawu from Leicester, who has already shown his quality at Premier League level, is 2 years younger than Azeez, will be available to leave as they have gone down to L1, plus he is on a surprisingly low wage on his current contract, so we wouldn't have to be matching/bettering a £50k a week wage for a player of his quality.

We need players to improve our squad not players which are similar to what we already have.

Need to cast the net further, and also grab a Xhaka esque type player... I have seen we have been linked with Openda from Juventus... he's a striker

Should be aiming for higher calibre players that we all know can play or have played in the premiership!
If the club are serious about sustaining a premiership spot and more then tney have to get real abd sign players like
Hackney
Delap
Harvey elliot
Jared bowen(if west ham get relegated)
Amongst others! I know many supporters lack serious ambition and think these players are beyond us but no! We are bigger than half of the current premier leauge clubs! Got to at least try and go for these type of players

Jared Bowen will be aiming higher than ipswich

He turns 25 next month so I think we would be paying top price for him at £15-20m, with no guarantee he could do it at Premier League level. Better value abroad I expect.

Bowen never signs for us . He will go spurs or somewhere

Never too impressed with him from what I’ve seen - too hot and cold. And getting the “best” of the Champ hasn’t proved to be a good strategy. Obviously it’s only a rumour and only one player.

Harvey Elliott on loan to buy if we stay up would be a great addition. West Ham also got a few decent players they will need to transfer out.
We need a forward to score goals, that is definitely our weakest spot.

Churchmans, I believe you're correct about some supporters lacking serious ambition. Yes that has to be tempered with a degree of reality, but I hope the club aren't lacking it in any way, shape or form, and I doubt they are, though the signings as they come in will give some indication. For me, I'd rather aim for the top and fail, than aim for the bottom and succeed. In football as in life. PL clubs demand PL quality players, simple!

Good player. Him and Hackney would be decent additions. But to survive, we must learn. That means shopping for exceptional players and not just in the championship. Failed miserably last time.

There is only 1 championship player i would sign and that is Hayden Hackney.
Forget the rest, they are 2nd tier players for a reason.

Not convinced by this, we should be learning our lessons from last time and go for experienced Prem players rather than top championship players, surely we are overstocked on wingers (unless we let some go) and try to strengthen in other areas ie up front

The other issue is that he is a predominantly left-footed right side forward, who cuts in. We've already got Sindre (and there is a player there given time,...) who does that. If we want another right-sided forward I would rather get someone who can go on the outside - and personally I think we do give Burns/Ogbene a chance (the latter did ok with Luton a couple of years ago). Priorities should be DM (Hackney), and then looking abroad for a striker or two.

Ffs I hope not! Another over priced championship winger, don’t we have enough wide players already? We need strikers and a box to box midfielder. If KM goes down the same route this time signing the best in the championship we will get relegated after one season again. MA did allude in his interview on TalkSport that town would be taking a different route with recruitment this season. Let’s hope MA is a man of his word.

I'd say most people will be thinking, not good enough. I think they are right. Repeating past failures imo.

I think we can afford one or two championship players, to be squad players, but no more then that. Hackney the only one from the league id want as a starter... although i dont really like him so not overly fussed (just seems like q bit of a c*ck and hes already had his chance to join us and he blew it....) Azeez didn't do much at PR last season, nor in the playoffs.... that RW position is going to be one of the most important areas for recruitment next season, with Burns likely to move on, Egeli not good enough (yet) and Macateer looking better but not quite sure he's good enough to start most weeks in the prem- albeit has experience and has improved significantly in recent months.... let's see!
