Rodgers Odds Shorten

Brendan Rodgers, currently manager of Saudi club Al Qadsiah, is now third-favourite for the Town job, according to one bookmaker.

Rodgers is currently at 7/2 with BetVictor with his price having come in significantly over the course of the last day. However, another bookie, William Hill, is still not listing a price for the 53-year-old.

The former Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester boss was given his first job as a manager by Blues chairman and CEO Mark Ashton during his time at Watford and at one point came close to moving to Portman Road as Roy Keane’s assistant before being offered the senior role at Swansea City, the club where his managerial career really took off.

Rodgers joined Al Qadsiah in December on a contract which runs to 2028, which presumably would mean the Dammam-based side would be due significant compensation were the Northern Irishman to move elsewhere.

It still looks like not too much should be read into the betting market with Bodø/Glimt head coach Kjetil Knutsen continuing to be listed as the favourite at 5/4 or 6/4, despite the Norwegian being due to undergo back surgery today, which would appear to make an immediate switch of clubs unlikely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains second favourite at 6/4 or 5/2 with Gary O’Neil now fourth at 7/2 or 4-1. Brian Barry-Murphy is at 6/1 or 8/1.

Liam Rosenior, who according to French reports at the weekend, is set to take some time out of the game, is still priced at 5/1 or 8/1.

Whilst this doesn't excite me at all, maybe we need a period of consolidation under a manager like Rodgers before pushing on in a season or two. 4 divisions in 4 seasons has been a bit of a rollercoaster, and the next stage of the journey is likely to be less volatile and more incremental growth.

In order for that to be the case we need to stay up this season, and probably need to match the next manager to this ambition.

Some fansxare really odd. A manager with pl experience, dine well almost everywhere hes been but wouldnt watching here? Get that he may not be people's 1st choice, me included tbh. But maybe this is what we need right now. Fans saying they're not happy with any of the names? Sorry, who do u expect us to get? Pep, Klopp? Need to get real. Bottom manager is going to join a club who will be among the favourites to be relegated. Why would they? So maybe a steady hand is what we need. Some1 experienced. Certainly not the time to go for another rookie manager. Was fine when in lge1, and worked out better than we all could have dreamed of. But not in the pl.
All those agsinst Gary O'Neil. Obviously its bcse of his Norwich connection, which frankly is pathetic. So did Joe Royle and he did pretty well for us. Enroll did a decent job at Bournemouth and started pretty well at Wolves. Yes, it wentcwrong in his 2ndxyear, but maybe the fact hes experienced that could turn out to be a good thing. Again, wouldn't be my 1st choice. But then, I cant honestly say who id want. What I will do tho, is get behind whoever gets the job. And hopefully everyone else will too. Its gonna be a tough enough job to follow Mckenna as it is. So if fans are against whoever it is from the start, will only make the job harder, if not impossible.

I hate to be repetitive but trust the process. Mark knows what we need, and both BR and OGS have significant PL experience.

The love affair with Kieran was just that, the next appointment needs to be someone with the pedigree to make Ipswich town an attractive destination for players, and someone know knows how to survive in this league.

We must learn from our experiences last time out, when we were largely outclassed. The right appointment, a good window and I think we can say we may have a 50-50 chance next time out. If that happens to be under a less romantic storyline, so be it

I don't think he would be the worst appointment- proven manger, relationship with MA, plays good football... a much safer bet then OGS or some of the others linked.

The blue monday "Who's Next" episode has made me feel a bit better about some of the options. But I just really think it will be someone we don't know, so not sure there's much value in speculating about the names mentioned so far!

I think we will know by the end of the week...

Has a lot of baggage, but literally won the FA Cup in 2021, and got top 6 finishes. Ashton knows him so would shortcut/neutralise perhaps some of the issues he's had with ownership and boards recently...

I don't hate it and would be happy to get right behind him. I don't think we will be appointing anyone with anything close to the CV high points and achievements that he has on his. And he's still only 53.

Ipswichbusiness added 11:55 - Jun 16 Brendon Roger’s would be a good choice as he is an experienced successful manager who knows MA and has an excellent PL track record. The one caveat is can we extract him from his Saudi commitments quickly and at a cost we can afford?

I think this would be just another managerial appointment for a manager that's been around the houses although a better suggestion than Solskjaer who has done nothing apart from being top of the popularity charts. I would go for a more hands on manager who's hungry for success Knutsen or even the Cardiff manager Barry either way it's always going to be a gamble who ever it is.

Things are very different today than they were when we took an unknown KM in League One. It was a risk worth taking and it paid off … big time.

But we are now a PL club. We need to attract top players and have the know how to stay up. I just think we need someone with experience. The Cardiff manager is highly rated but hasn’t managed at Championship level. The risk and stakes are high.

I do feel like Ashton is treading thin ice with a few of the latest problems he's been at the heart of, i think if he doesn't get this manager appointment correct, he's time maybe ticking.

As long as Ashton doesn't make Farage our manager and he chooses someone with an experienced know how head, Ashton may also extend his stay amongst our owners thoughts for a few more seasons.
