Jakobsson Deal Back On Tue 06th Jun 2000 19:56
Andreas Jakobsson. Remember him? He was Town's centre-half target last summer before he decided he didn't want to move abroad with his girlfriend pregnant. Well, presumably she's not any more and there are rumours that he is once again a Town target. The 27-year-old Helsingborgs player is likely to cost Town in excess of £1 million if they decide that he is the centre-half they want. However, given that he's about the sixth we've been linked with this week I shouldn't hold your breath.
Town Hignett Link Tue 06th Jun 2000 12:17
Town are being linked with Barnsley midfielder Craig Hignett. The Tykes' highest scorer and Wembley penalty hero is being suggested as a buy for Town if, and it does seem only if, Martijn Reuser doesn't join the club. George Burley said of the former Middlesbrough man: "Craig Hignett is a player I have always admired. He’s a good player, no doubt about that, but he is similar to Martijn Reuser. Who knows, if that deal falls through, we will have to look elsewhere."
Reuser Deal Imminent Tue 06th Jun 2000 10:38
Town are looking to complete the deal which will make Martijn Reuser a Town player in the next few days. George Burley is said to be working tirelessly to sort out the deal with Vitesse Arnhem expected to be in the region of £1.2 million. Reuser has become a popular figure during his loan spell at Portman Road and fans will be glad to see the deal tied up.
De Boeck Link Renewed Mon 05th Jun 2000 13:15
Town are again being linked with Anderlecht centre-half Glen de Boeck. The 29-year old Belgian international is available on a free at the end of the season and wants to play in England. The story first surfaced at the end of April and is doing the rounds once more. Interesting that every player we've been linked with so far is a defender isn't it?
Colourful Debut For Wright Mon 05th Jun 2000 13:02
Richard Wright finally became Town's first full England international in 14 years when he lined up for the game in Malta on Saturday.
Holdsworth Link Resurfaces Fri 02nd Jun 2000 13:53
Last month's story linking Birmingham centre-half David Holdsworth with a move to Portman Road has resurfaced. The centre-half was one of the stars of the season for the Brummies and may well be looking to move to The Premiership. THe 31-year-old is rated at £1.5 million and could well become Town;s first ourchase of the summer, although it would be a surprise for Town to buy another defender over 30.
Wright Chased by Italians Fri 02nd Jun 2000 12:35
Richard Wright has today emerged as a target for a number of Italian clubs. A report in a national newspaper says that Wright has already been the target of Juventus and Roma and also claimed interest from Barcelona. It is suggested that he will be offered a £3 million a year deal wherever he goes, however the whole story sounds a bit rubbish to me. After all didn't he commit himself to Town earlier in the week? And wouldn't it do his England hopes a bit of harm to be abroad? I suspect this is yet another story we should take with a pinch of salt.
Stockwell to Norwich Fri 02nd Jun 2000 12:23
The unthinkable may be about to happen with rumours abound that Mickey Stockwell may be interesting Nationwide Division One League side Norwich City.
Town Linked to Guevara Thu 01st Jun 2000 14:52
Town are being linked with Amado Guevara, a 24-year-old Honduran international, currently playing for Motagua. He is a midfielder and is being represented by Marcelo Houseman who was involved in the deal that saw Adrian Paz and Mauricio Taricco join Town in 1994. Other clubs linked include Coventry and a German side. The agent said: "I do have an excellent relationship with the people of Ipswich Town because, three [ahem, five and half] years ago, I sold the Argentinian Mauricio Taricco to them, who they ended up transferring to Tottenham for $4 million." Hmmm, is this just an agent touting a player or is there really something in this?
That Was The Week This Was Thu 01st Jun 2000 14:39
What a week, eh? One that no Town fan will ever forget. Has it sunk in yet? We are Premier League, we are Premier League.
