[Blog] I Agree With Roy (To a Point)
Written by BaltachaFanClub on Tuesday, 19th Oct 2010 19:31

So, Roy has vented his opinions again, and this time it's us fans at the brunt of it.

But I agree with his opinions this time. In general the average football fan has probably not played the game to league level, or even non-league, the SIL is our local set-up, and at best the standard is mediocre.

I have played in it, very briefly and I would never consider myself a skilled player, I have watched hundreds of games, from non-league through to Champions League and World Cup games, but have only a basic level of training within the coaching scheme.

My brother has a UEFA coaching certificate, actually when he did his first one he was on the same course as Richard Naylor. Colwyn Rowe who coached it is highly regarded within football along with Derek Fazackerley as the supreme coaches' coach, and my brother doesn’t go to professional football matches often.

I decided to answer the critics of Roy in this blog because of one thing, Saturday. This weekend was the first time I have ever left before the final whistle, but it wasn’t a football reason I hasten to add. I missed the last five minutes, but apparently didn’t miss much.

However, Roy has a prime example of his know-nothing fan sitting near me, an elderly gent in front who continually blames Jason Scotland and Jaime Peters for everything, irrespective of fault.

There are collectives of fans who boo Priskin constantly. He’s not the greatest striker ever to grace our pitch, far from it, but does he need to be greeted with such abuse ? I don’t think he does, it must affect his game knowing that he could score a hat-trick and someone would probably concentrate on the two he missed.

I rarely confront people over their opinion, but I have done it twice this season, one man berated Priskin for no apparent reason, and Saturday I had to stick up for Scotland, yes he made a few errors, but if a cross goes over him by three feet, or a throw goes straight to the keeper, he will struggle to score!

If Roy feels the need to alert the public to their ignorance, that's up to him. Yes, I do think sometimes he should keep it to himself, but how can people berate him for his opinions when they are all too keen to voice theirs? Radio phone-ins, message boards, the EADT letters page and so on.

Roy just has a different way of doing it, when he wants to talk a room fills up with reporters, cameras and various pad-waving, microphone jockeys looking for a scoop. And don’t you think he kind of likes it? Marcus Evans probably loves it, as Sky, BBC, ITV, ESPN and every news network around the world has Roy Keane spouting his brand of news in front of a huge Marcus Evans Group poster.

That's great free advertising, actually it's called product placement, and the high profile Mr Keane earns Mr Evans huge amounts of airtime!

Agree with the blog about clueless fans but I don't agree with Roy's comments in general. He basically said we know nothing, and should stop criticising his tactics. He then wittered on about supporting the young players for no apparent reason (fans of this club love to see young players come through, and this batch is no different and there hasn't been any booing or moaning about them as far as I've seen), which mainly seemed to be deflecting attention from focusing on his tactics. As with most of Roy's comments it appeared to have a point but he actually confused it completely halfway through.

Are we allowed to moan about his tactics or not?

Ignore the youth player comments, that was a total red-herring my Roy.

I'm no expert, but I've seen enough football in my time to know that the last season and a bit have offered up some of the most boring, defensive and clueless football I've seen as a town fan. And I don't blame the players - old or young - for that.

He might think it and he might be right, but he shouldn't say it. Same as he might think we're incapable of scoring 3 or 4 in a game and he might be right, but he shouldn't say that either. You can be too honest.

Town fans will always give good support but we do need something to support. 1 goal in how many hours of first half footie!! not very exiting footie at that.

I think you and Keane are missing the point. As the first two comments correctly point out, most fans are criticing the tactics and poor quality of football. That occasionally becomes a rant at the unfortunate player who passes it to a photograper. Poor tactics and quality of football are totally down to Keane and if he gets the hump because we won't tolerate it then he shld feck off back to Cork.

As for Evans and his advertising, I do agree with you. We are a rich boys toy, one who is more keen on making money for his tawdry ticket-touting business than enjoying football glory. Clegg is merely there to procure Olympic tickets and Keane is there to get the Marcus Evans brand known. Anything that happends on the pitch is at best secondary. Oh for Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour

Some of Keanes comments do agree with there lot of old people in Suffolk stuck in their ways its a fair comment because its very true I work in sales and deal with people freom around here every day and they hate change. But on the other hand there are people myself included who have been brought up watching, playing and supporting football and we do have a genuine right to our opinions. Anyone who knows anything about football can see we dont score enough goals we dont create good geniune chances we dont have a go (afraid to shoot) Our set pieces are apalling we have more corners than the opposition in most games yet when do we ever look like getting on end of them? The football is so boring to watch we have too many plodders in team we need pace quick passing to feet movement not just lumping it hopelessly we are not stoke, blackburn, sheffutd we are Ipswich town we were sucsessful before playing football and I would rather see my team lose playing the game the right way than lose playing the way we are. Why think attendances so low its because no excitement, no goal mouth action, no good football I think I have valid point
