It's late, and I'm sitting here thinking of the good days when Pablo Couñago was my favourite player, without a doubt.

I look at our current team now, and are there any potential club players around? Do we have that player who loves Ipswich more than anything? The new Bam Bam, the new Pablo, the new Mogga? Anyone?

Well, it's quite sad in a way, cause that is what football was all about before, passion for the club you played for and a true hunger to give it your best for YOUR beloved football club. Wouldn't it be nice if we had a player thinking like us fans, eh? Personally I would love that.

If I just ONCE could go into the head of JET and make him think like me: WIN THAT TACKLE, WIN THAT BALL! Anything for Ipswich!

It's not like they don't care at all, I just think many of the modern footballers are more than happy to raise their weekly cash and spend it on some posh car, while us fans who keep Ipswich alive are working hard for each and every penny, just to watch Town. I'm going off track now, but I don't mind, I just want to say what I want to say.

If Michael Chopra had kissed the Ipswich badge after he scored and stayed here for five years then retired I would be more than happy, it would prove to me that he loves our club, and I think he LIKES it, at least I have the impression he does!

At the moment we don't have many players who have served our club for more than two years, the sad thing is that a player like Grant Leadbitter is one of the longest serving players in the current squad, that says a lot.

As I am Norwegian and cant afford to go to more than perhaps two or three matches each season. I wonder how it is to see us perform like we did at Burnley, a gutless and careless performance, it must hurt, right?

But will we ever get a new Kevin Beattie, or a new Micky Mills? I don't think so, but I am allowed to hope!?

For that to happen we need consistency and a long-term plan. We don't need to debate on whether Paul Jewell should be here or not but we can't keep sacking managers if we want club-players, that just wont happen.

You don't really need a doctor's education to understand that new managers want new players, and that will stop the consistency of long-serving players at the club.

For Ipswich to have a Stevie G, a Carragher, a John Terry or even a Paul Scholes would be amazing. Perhaps Aaron Cresswell could be THAT player, or maybe Luke Hyam.

Nostalgia have taken over my head at the moment, I can't stop thinking of the days when we had Bam Bam etc. Hopefully we'll get THAT player in the future... COYB

JimmyJazz added 09:35 - Mar 12 All those players you mention - Gerrard, Carragher, Terry, Scholes - play for a top team and therefore don't need to move to play at the top. Any team outside the top teams is unlikely to have someone similar unless that player isn't really good enough to be attracting attention from other clubs. Cresswell won't be the player you're dreaming of but Hyam could well be.

He seems to care about the club and I think it helps when a club stands by a player through difficult times (driving saga). Think this helps to build a rapport between the club and player. Good blog and reckon Hyam or Smith could be the next bam bam type for the Town.

Gio was for a short time three years ago (yes, three years back, can you believe it?) but now we have some players who could go on to become the next one, Cresswell, Drury, JET, Martin and Chops are name I would put in who have the potential, but do they have that certain something else that makes them a favourite and so much so they leave a lasting legacy when they're gone.

Nthsuffolkblue added 10:17 - Mar 12 I think Jon Walters was the last player to be the sort you yearn for. My earliest favourite was Micky Stockwell because he was Town through and through. Some of our current squad have the potential to become the hero but I don't think it is the sort of player we have been signing more recently and perhaps that is something that should be considered in our transfer dealings. I think what you will find is that if we do get a successful team the hero(es) will naturally emerge at the same time.

buryblue77 added 10:24 - Mar 12 I still think we should have offered Chuck the deal he was requesting, after all he was a good player for us, we spent £2.5m on him and saw nothing in terms of fees from a transfer because he left when his contract was up. An all too common ITFC saga that one, think about the amount of money we've spent on players since Evans took over just to let them leave because we seem to be inflexible on negotiations or because they haven't work out. Norris £2.5m, McAuley £1.5m, Prsikin £1.7m and Fulop £750k and possibly Leadbitter £2.6m. Sorry it's off subject but it's something I feel strongly about (the club wastes money whilst we are forced to pay high ticket prices) and it was kind of relative to what you'd said about Chuck leaving.

Trouble is since the Evans regime we've tried to buy success rather than let it grow. Supple (fell out of love with the game due to dressing room shenanigans), Rhodes (ridiculous obsurd sale which we will regret for a decade), Wickham (sold too early too young), Trotter (has captained Millwall), Garvan (what went wrong?) we're all potential candidates for that 'icon' role and no worse than what we've since bought. Murray or Smith (a future long-term club captain IMO) could yet be the player you seak but with the new academy tier system and the PL getting every richer the best young players will always be lured by the pot of gold. Sad times...

The time when we had more than half a dozen of the type of player you are talking about are long since gone and they came, to a large degree, through our youth set up. The time was, once, when the England team was based on Town players and, I think, the only English player who didn't get a cap was Paul Cooper which was a shame because he was an outstanding keeper but then there were many outstanding keepers around in those days. I blame Sky for what has happened to English football, them and their "all new ball game", crap! I just hope and pray that we will come again. tractorintheloft added 12:39 - Mar 12 Sindre - Enjoyed your Blog. Agree current side does lack a talisman, although like other posters agree that Bullard filled this hole for a couple of months. Leeds home game was a great atmosphere with Bullard coming on for his first "proper" debut. However, it feels strange that you can love Pablo but loathe JET. Pablo often looked lethargic wouldn't track back or tackle and dropped for workhorse style players. JET on his day is our new Pablo. Loving the triple nutmeg. Now the entertainment at PR is returning I'm sure we'll have a host a favourates to debate in coming months.

I discount Edawrds, I think he only wants to be here because he won't get much of a contract elsewhere and is settled - not disputing he's playing some of his best football right now, but at the end of every season gone he came out with comments like 'didn't try my hardest' (paraphrasing, can't remember what he said exactly) I also unfortunatly think Pablo went through some very lazy periods at the place, i think Kuqi may be more of one for the hero tag

But if I had kids now, I'd have no idea who's name to put on the shirt. We've ad such a high turnover of players, we have indeed lost a bit of an identity in the playing staff. Lets hope this apparently settled 16 stay together for. Long time!

Carlos (in that order) (+ Drury or Cressy perhaps) I have seen Martin this season begin to be a real team player, but Smith for captain imo
