4-2-3-1 for us then? Connolly this year's Kevin Foley?

We don't appear to have a central midfield?

Should be interesting.

Connolly will play there I guess - when we signed him Joe Royle made a comment about that being the position he'll end up playing.

As against Sunderland, Mick backing his forwards to make the most of playing against a shaky, injury hit defence. Should be goals here today (for both sides).

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

What's the formation going to be then? I'm really not convinced that MM knows what his best formation is, best XI etc.... Just seems to get the squad 18 and then picks out the first XI names.

Connolly at right back, Spence with Chambers. Webster alongside Skuse???

Bart
Connolly Chambers Spence Knudsen
Skuse Webster
McGoldrick
Celina Garner Waghorn

Might work!

Is Connolly playing at left back with Jonas centre half as a back 5 or is the defender playing centre midfield? Confusing.

5-1-4 makes sense? I'd say that'd be the most crazy formation possible!

Connolly and Skuse. Sounds solid to me with lots of creativity ahead of them. Spot on selection.

If we are going to play kick and run, we don't need a midfield. Bring on the 5-1-4 which may well morph into a 4-0-6 if we send the centre half up as another striker and Skuse as attacking midfield. Oof!

Surely we want Webster settled into being our long term CB rather than trying him out as CDM. He may well be our best player in the nest few seasons.

No it doesn't. It'd be unusual to put Spence at CB with Webster ahead of him in a new role is madness!

I'd suggest Connolly next to Skuse means they can fill in between Spence-Waghorn and Jonas - Celina when PNE try and press us and pin us back in our box.

Nice of Mick to keep us guessing.

Im with you. Be amazed if its not connolly and Skuse. He even said he would consider that. Its just whether it is 442 as i thought or 4231 as you said. Think you might be right.

Certainly not madness, Webster could play that role in midfield, also Spence has been exposed a lot recently at right back. However, I think Watson has got it right 4-2-3-1, with what you suggested Mullet, Connolly and Skuse as the defensive midfielders sitting in front of the back 4. Still think these constant changes of formations and personnel on a weekly basis is simply ridiculous.

Preston's line-up looks to be something along these lines:

Maxwell
Fisher - Huntington - Boyle - O'Connor
Pearson - Welsh
Barkhuizen - Browne - Johnson
Hugill

Their starting XI is top-heavy with central midfielders. Pearson, Welsh & Browne could end up screening a back four which is made up of the only fully-fit first-team squad defenders they have available.

Connolly is suppose to be a left or right full back.

There is talk he MIGHT be a CDM at some point.

I wish we would play players in the correct position and play with what we can do at all times and stop trying to re programme them to try and match up the opponent who I just noted are also playing some sort of 4-2-3-1.

He will change it after 20 mins anyway, so not sure why I am bothered!
