Best Live Band 70s/80s 16:14 - Nov 15 with 25451 viewsitfcpaul

What's the best live band you have seen recently who arrived in the late 70s 80s?

I will start with a few thoughts:
OMD
Gary Numan
Barenaked Ladies
Green Day
ELO
Midge Ure

What's yours?

ah oops / try again

Adam Ant - Toronto this spring - ace
Damned -Toronto in spring - awesome, except for the Captain falling off stage and breaking rib thus ending the encore
X (LA primo punk band) on 40th anniversary tour on my birthday this Sept in Buffalo

The Adicts - on my 50th birthday in NYC, on guest-list, and was crowd-surfed while the band played Happy Birthday (known them for aeons); can take the boy out of Ipswich...

Used to follow the Adicts everywhere, band minibus etc, saw them at the Corn exchange about 5 years? ago, utter cr@p.

Have you seen Barenaked Ladies or Steven Page live

nope; even though been based in Canada since 2007 haven't seen much 'local' stuff (Gordon Downie who?)

yeah I used to go in the minibus ('two pound fifty son!') back in the day, to Feltham Football Club and various other gigs with Lee Perkins and various others; bloody thing always used to break down

Sham 69, The Stranglers, The Specials, Stiff Little Fingers.

Saw SLF early this year & they were still very good. Touring again next year.
Also saw the Specials a coupe of years ago & were good although the number of original members is diminishing somewhat.
Not as bad as Dr Feelgood who still tour but with no original mermbers - a tribute band in all but name.

They shouldnt be allowed to call themselves Dr Feelgood

They are bigger in The States than they are here. My mate boarded a plane in LAX wearing an Adicts tee shirt and was instantly upgraded to first class.

Sadly Lee Brilleaux - who was a brilliant front man when I saw Feelgood in the 1970s - died in 1994.

Sorry but U2....
and my all time hero Steve Harley.

U2 up to and including Achtung Baby were amazing.

Their new song is like a crap version of Coldplay.

neat story / very much so; they play the west coast every year (Monkey and Pete live in LA), and usually only do one gig in the UK annually

currently in Germany where they also do very well

Hoping Adam will do a "Prince Charming" tour next year, as would love to see that!

there are not many who are still gigging with much credibility.

I'll give you some from that era who I saw recently (last few years).

The Hamsters
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son tour and the one before that (can't remember)

I did see these bands last year, both at the Roundhouse;
The Specials - Jeepers they are good. With Steve Craddock on guitar as well.
Adam Ant - Awful! His band are like a pub band but slightly better and he was all over the place. I went with my middle son, who has played the Roundhouse himself (sold out) and bigged him up. He laughed at me.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.
