Stadium - ~80,000 people.
Was a really great show.

Getting a large stadium really rocking is hard to do. The ones I've seen do it are The Who & Springsteen. I tend to avoid stadium gigs for that reason, as well as the fact that the acoustics can be very poor.

Saw Springsteen at The Ricoh, which for a stadium gig is relatively intimate.

Saw Bruce at the Emirates a few years ago & he really had the whole place going. Best live performer I've seen.
I have heard that he really is fantastic live but after The River I haven't really liked anything he has done - US power pop / rock just isn't my thing really - although I accept I haven't listened to much of his stuff since the late 80's so I may be talking out of my arse.
I quite like a stadium gig as you can dance and spin on the pitch, I need a large area when I get going!
I went to see ELO in Amsterdam as I presumed everyone would be off their nut and dancing, alas that wasn't the case and me and The Mrs were getting in the way of everyone seated as we were doing our stuff.
We ended up going to the bar area which was a few steps down from the arena where we had a few beers and stood on the steps and danced the night away.
It was a great evening.

Saw ELO at the O2 a couple of years ago & they were excellent, although I suspect some of Jeff Lynne's vocals may have been prerecorded. Unsurprisingly, the crowd was typically 50-somethings so they stayed on their feet until the encore.

As Springsteen plays for at least 3 hours each gig he does go through his full repertoire. He has this thing were people hold up big cards etc. with the titles of the songs that they want him to play.

Yes, Bruce plays a wide range & when he starts one of his acoustic dirges I know it's time to make a quick visit to the loo.

I was in Vegas once and there was a Tom Petty tribute band on in one of the casinos, it was just about 50 people watching and having a beer. The singer used to ask for a request after every song. On the second number I asked for Running Down a Dream and he replied along the lines of "Is it possible to play that a bit later, If we do it too early everyone will feck off after"

Saw ELO at an awards event at a hotel last week. They did 5 songs. Absolutely superb.
Then U2 at Trafalgar Square on Saturday. They were really on top form, but the atmosphere was a bit flat as it was essentially an audience of tourists/corporates.
And this Saturday Martha Reeves & The Vandellas are playing ULU. Slightly earlier than asked, but still. Can't wait.

Never heard of them
some mates were in a terrible school band did a 'gig' somewhere in Rushmere - late 70s. The Adicts turned up, took the gear and did their own show. Very punk.

no all live vocals
I saw ELO at the O2, and they really weren't terrible. But I could have replicated the musical side of the experience by playing their "best of" album slightly too loud on my home hifi. There was little deviation from the original studio versions, so it was a bit like a quite good tribute band.
I'd say the same of David Gilmour too. His solo stuff in his set was wonderful, but much of the Floyd set was "Joe Loss and his Band play Pink Floyd's greatest hits".

So what's wrong with them being able to replicate live what happens in the studio

so like to venture away from it some dont
It's a valid debate. Here's an interesting piece on how live performances can be "enhanced". not the blatant miming done by the likes of Madonna & Britney Spears. I also think some West End musicals use prerecorded vocals. http://www.vulture.com/2016/03/live-performance-tricks.html

I've worked with many artists over the years and yes there are cheats in place especially bands like OMD whohave multi layers of keyboards so impossible to play but they have always been open about that when initially using "Winston" on stage but now using 3 apple Macs openlyvon display

These days, artists tend to use live autotune or vocal overlays rather than mime, don't they? There aren't too many artists who even attempt the kind of dance spectaculars that Michael Jackson and Madonna used to in the Eighties/Nineties. So few artists who need to lip-sync live. I've seen lots of pop acts over the past 2/3 decades and lip-syncing has become much less prevalent.
Certainly, someone like Jeff Lynne of ELO would *never* mime live - there is a lot of vocal overlays, but that's it. Some bands/performers are simply very tight. That's what comes of performing the same set 200-300 times over a 2 year period.
