In two days we've had stories of celebs knocking fairy tale characters in "serious " newspapers (Guardian and Times). This is not serious news by anyone's reckoning, so why are they doing it? I think it's done to deflect from our politicians' incompetence by having stupid arguments about stupid people having stupid interpretations about stupid stuff for kids. We shouldn't fall for it. We should tell our Press to grow up and start to do what the press is supposed to do in a democracy - keep our politicians honest. What they are actually doing is covering for our politicians incompetence.

You may have a perfectly valid point, but people also don't want news, they want gossip and to be outraged. Keeping politicians honest would require too many dull words, not enough pictures and wouldn't sell papers (or generate clicks).
