No confidence motion seems a given now 12:40 - Jan 15 with 8216 viewsStokieBlue

It would seem a no confidence motion is almost certain given what has just come out of the cabinet.

May has told them she will push ahead with her deal regardless of the scale of the defeat and will refuse to rule out a no deal. Labour will have no choice but to call the no confidence vote or they will be seen as complicit (although in many eyes they already are). Hard to see what it solves though, Labour can’t win it.

Predictions all over the place at the moment but looks like she will lose by something between 100 and 230 votes.

I don't think the defeat will be quite as resounding as many are expecting. She'll lose but I think by somewhere between 50 and 100 is my guess.

If she loses in those margins, surely she would have to resign to save face?

What is the point of not ruling out no deal? Is it to keep the swivel-eyed happy? You would have hoped the Tories had learned their lesson about caving into the fruitcake stall by now. There's absolutely no parliamentary appetite for it (thank god) and I'm not so sure the EU will be threatened by our cutting off our noses to spite our face.

It's an utterly impossible situation. You have scores of MPs voting no who want outcomes that range from modest amends on the backstop to Thatcherites who seek a no deal to those wishing to revoke article 50. A defeat is the only possible outcome.

Surely any amendments would have to be agreed by the EU to work?

Not any more. People have just given up on these constitutional conventions.

The Tories have lost votes on military action and the budget, and just ploughed ahead when in the past at least the PM would have gone. Corbyn has faced the mutiny of ~80% of his MPs and just gone "meh".

The ridiculous farce continues, this time it’s JC with his pointless amendment:

- Amendment A (Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn's amendment) which rejects the deal because it fails to provide a permanent customs union and "strong single market deal", as set out in Labour's "six tests", rejects leaving with no deal and resolves to "pursue every option" that prevents either no deal or leaving on the basis of the current deal.

So whilst he is right on no deal he still thinks he can get a deal which involves being a member of the customs union and the single market but without freedom of movement. It’s borderline delusional.

It’s a worry when the leaders of both parties seem to live on another planet.

This is without a doubt how I feel about things, I honest do not feel we could have had worse leadership for this whole mess.

Although we'd have to return to freedom of movement we could still legislate to ensure EU citizens have to reach specific employment and financial criteria to remain. Which we should have done anyway. That deal would at least leave us roughly where we were before, though would obviously upset a great many people.

Honestly, all this time the people of GB have been knocking lumps out of one another it comes down to this, politicians who have collectively failed.
