I just checked the petition at 21:49, 7 hours after Ryorry posted this thread.

Additional signatures in 7 hours: 243,831
Additional signatures per minute: 580

Whatever people may think of this petition those are astonishing numbers when we're already starting from over 5,000,000 signatures. The government thinks that any petition that gets 10,000 deserves a response. Any petition which gets 100,000 is considered for a debate in parliament. This petition on a Sunday when it already has 5m+ signatures has added an additional 243,831.

I can see why the hardcore leavers are so rattled by it. Long may it continue to grow.

Given where we are at in the process and the degree of awareness in the populous I would be a little concerned if I was pushing for another go that there are a minimum of 28.25million that voted last time yet to express a view.
If I had wished I could have voted for my 14 year old.....maybe I should as last week in a school assembly they were told leaving will mean no more sat navs and the loss of tv channels so she's convinced!

That has nothing to do with the question. You are basically admitting you can't answer it. You were convinced of Brexit by Gove and you wanted a hard Brexit. Now Gove apparently wants the softest of Brexits and you refuse to say if you're happy with that. Clearly you aren't but you feel you have to be loyal to any form of Brexit. I find that odd.

But you (and Herbivore but on the opposite tack) seem to down vote posts like automatons just because they come from a view counter to yours. I know it can be difficult to avoid the knee jerk reaction and I have gone through that phase myself a few times, however it does little to persuade anyone to take up your viewpoint.

By the way I do not think age is a defining criteria as to whether you are Leave or Remain (I'm 63) and I do hear what you are saying about your experiences in haulage. But I also hear Badger's about the NHS haemorrhaging staff too.

Sorry, MJ, in comparison to the pure navel-gazing and braying undertaken from both the Red and Blue sides of the house over the last 2.5 years, I couldn't disagree any more. If we're discussing timewasting, let's look at the actions undertaken by David Davis and Dominic Raab in the aforementioned time-scale (Raab, the mtherfu(ker, is positioning himself for a crack at the main job.... if only he'd shown the same brass-neck and balls when 'negotiating' with the EU)....

so on that point i agree - for me, the demonstration holds more weight than the petition.

and i agree with you on the timewasting has been phenominal. can kicking is still happening!

what has been very visbily demonstrated is that (whichever way you voted) - the politicians cannoy carry out the will of the people.

i cant help but thinking its all been very peaceful so far, but it wont be for long.

all theyve said here is that 96% (and that was 2 days ago mind) originate from the UK
that doenst necessarily mean they are of legal voting age, or indeed eligable to vote. furthermore, although the HO have measures against security, it doesnt disclude the fact that things can slip through. (or the fact that HO IT security is poor to say the least anyway)

lastly , the point i made above stands, this petition means absolutely jack aside from "it can be put forward for debate" - given that it already has, it can be dismissed.

Ironically if the referendum had had full legal force then the crimes committed by the inter-twined Leave campaigns would have meant the result was null and void.

It's only because the referendum was "advisory" that this was not the case. The basis being , as a QC acting for Theresa May admitted in Court, she knew of the illegality when making the decision to exercise A50.
