I just wondered how optional it was, so good to know. I'll tell my brother he can skip that bit if he doesn't fancy filling it out. I'm sure sooner or later it will no longer be optional though.

I used to be on an Orlando Facebook page thing and loads of the people make so much fuss about getting an esta. Takes about 15 mins and is usually approved 5 mins later. Just look up the criteria of what is allowed and he will be fine. 2 things to note: there are lots of fake pages that will charge a fortune, it really isn't hard to work out the real one. The esta is for your passport if it needs renewing the esta will need to be done again.
Some people do them a year or so in advance, I've been a few times and normally just box it off a month or 2 from when i need it so it lasts longer. No one has ever checked our estas. Dolly is right just ignore anything optional |  |

Yeah, this isn't my first rodeo with them, I just thought it was interesting that this Social Media section seems to have been inserted at some point since I was last required to have one.
I'm used to the US government having access to all my personal documents for immigration purposes now (bank statements, travel itineraries, tax returns etc.) but if Social Media identifiers became a mandatory thing I could see it putting off a few tourists!
I just remembered, I even had to show an American doctor my twig and berries in Kinightsbridge for my visa. After that, I think my MySpace page from when I was 16 is fair game. [Post edited 14 May 2019 15:02]

Well, where you're from makes a big difference in how you're treated by USCIS. There aren't that many British folk planning on entering on an ESTA then never going home again.
I wonder if you were from some other VWP country like Lithuania or Taiwan whether you would have got away with that! [Post edited 14 May 2019 14:57]
