Good place for pallets? 11:14 - Oct 13 with 3759 viewswkj

Currently looking for 6 pallets, heat treated but not creosote/paint treated and of matching dimensions. Any ideas of where to pick these up on the cheap, not going to go to Universal Pallets at about £15 a pop because obviously not.

For those who want to know why, i'm building a dual compartment compost run with a half door on each

Nice picture, but if someone were to drop a fart in the bottom right section of the build can you please map how you think it would it spread around the structure?

Thanks.

I went a bit overboard on getting some wicker furniture last month, gotta tighten up the old purse strings.

Go to a building site and ask. We throw loads of pallets away, although, we do re-cycle a lot to store bricks, wood ect. on. You don't get them creosoted these days and its only the blue GKN ones that are painted which you won't get given.

I still think I have GKN splinters in my hands from my trouser stain days of working at Sainsburys, I am very happy to not deal with those ever again. I might nip up to that wood yard near the dock later as they seem to always have a big pile of pallets knocking about. Cheers.

I don't live in Ipswich so can't tell you were specifically, but if you go an industrial estate there should be a few knocking around. If you can get them I would recommend the Euro pallets as they are very sturdy. Might have to get in there by the end of the month though!

I asked nicely and got them for nothing.

As you say...

I noticed on the FB market place site thing there are firms asking people to come and take things away.

I had a few from a local store this summer to make some planters.

Heat treated though? Dunno about that. Is that necessary for the OP. I either stained and oiled or painted them. Get some fence paint or something and get plenty on.

Had a quick look and it looks like the Euro ones are heat treated. If so they will have HT marked on them.

That's something I have learned today. Thanks.

Where will the stamp be, or will that be obvious?

And when can you deliver please?

You have asked for delivery but I'm not sure the answer will be pallet-able.

I'll see how many I can fit in my car on my next trip up to Ipswich, please bear in mind I haven't been up that way since May last year!

Now those do look like nice pallets it has to be said.

I suppose we'd better hurry or all we'll be able to get is rotting old, grubby British ones.

If you’ve the time, try cruising industrial estates. I picked some up doing that to make a twin compost bin some years back. Depends on the businesses there of course, but anyone shifting loads of stuff will have old split ones lying around.

Not sure cruising industrial estates after hours is the best advice is it? Are you David Pleat?

Cheers for the heads up, I actually got what I needed from just up the road at a farm. The fella usually chips them up to sell Kindling but said if take them while I can have em as he effectively charges people for his effort when doing kindling
