FM 2020 thread 12:27 - Jan 5 with 12927 views | tractordownsouth | We haven’t got a proper one this year, I accidentally posted on last year’s one the other day. I’ve just started my fifth season with Town , my first in the PL. I won L1 in my first year and then had 2 mid table Championship finishes before winning the play offs last season, after I’d been top 2 for most of the season. I’ve got 1 point from the first 3 Pl games and everyone else in the league has at least double my wage budget but if I don’t get sacked we should be able to become a yo yo club for a bit. I’ve still got quite a few current players in the squad... Woolfenden, Downes, Lankester, El Mizoini and KVY are regular starters with Holy, Huws, Dozzell and Folami on the bench. I’ve religiously played a 4-4-2 control possession. How’s everyone else doing with it? [Post edited 5 Jan 2020 12:28]

FM 2020 thread on 11:43 - Jan 8 by itfcjoe | I've done the same as you with double title win, but struggled big time in the PL - my advice would be to try and sign more players for lower fees - I spent £13m on a RB. He's been really good and is now worth £20m but doesn't do enough for me. Managed to pick up a few bargains on transfer listed players and top Championship players and they have mostly done well enough and massive increase in value. I signed Toisin Adarabioyo on a Bosman, and after (literally) 1 game Lille bought him for £17m, my game then crashed and they offered the same deal and he turned down personal terms which was annoying as had decent enough cover (although he has been good for me) |
I’m halfway through my first PL season, I sit in 17th, 4 points clear of safety. I’ve done quite well away with 3 wins ( barring a 9-1 defeat to Liverpool) but have only won once at home. My wage budget is half the size of the team with the 19th biggest budget. generally the 18 is this ( 4-4-2) Ramsdale ( £2m from Bournemouth - bargain!) KVY Woolfenden Cardoso ( Loan from West Ham) Kitolano ( £1m from Wolves) El Mizouni Downes Tavares ( £10m from Brentford, plays for Leicester irl) Osayi- Samuel ( £2m from Rotherham, plays for QPR irl) Surridge ( £10m from Palace, plays for Bournemouth irl) Okenabirhie ( £1m from Shrewsbury) - scored 20 goals in all 3 championship seasons Subs: Holy Ralston ( RB on a free from Celtic) Baudano ( Regen CB - £7m from Dortmund) Garbutt Huws Folami Lankester I still have Dozzell and Pyrzbek around but they only get a few minutes here and there. I have Ben Knight back on loan also.

Lost in every cup, of those times to Chelsea. As an FYI - none of the Ipswich players are good enough to help you do something other than survive in the Prem.

I just nipped home at lunch to get my gym bag and snuck a game in.....beat Leicester 3-0 which is a hell of a result. Table is now: 17 - ITFC - P37 Pts31 -------------------------- 18 - Leeds - P36 Pts 29 19 - Burnley - P36 Pts 27 I've not seen who their game in hands are against on the Sunday, hopefully not each other! I've hit a run of form but the season may end too quickly for me

I think Liam Gibbs may be for me, plus KVY does well enough as a squad player. I've got a youth in first intake who I have already been offered £10m for, he's a CB so need to find a way to get him into the team. I sold El Miz for £3.5m during first season having only made 2-3 appearances which was a big help

FM 2020 thread on 14:49 - Jan 5 by tractordownsouth | Yeah I’ve loaned out Dobra for 5 seasons now as he doesn’t fit into my formation and I’ve released Simpson and Crowe. I didn’t even know how to search for players using criteria until season 3! I’ve only ever played FM on mobile before so I’m not really one to give advice but the squad should be good enough to survive in the Championship so probably just work on a consistent formation for the first season. |
Whats the mobile version like? I'm tempted, but they want £9!

Haven’t played it for years, it’s much more rigid than the computer version and far less detailed. It used to be good fun back in the day but I’d definitely recommend the computer version.

The youth systems done my head in. Got Ipswich to state of the art everything, and after Klug was poached by Everton. Signed a HOY with 17 working with youngsters, 20/20 judging PA&CA - absolutely nothing. I've had two back up right backs in 11 years. Even gave the HOY a new 3 year contract after he flopped the first three seasons thinking he'd grow into the role. Absolute BS. Previous FM's Ipswich always produced a quality player every other season. And I haven't been given a regen son which you're supposed to after 10 seasons at the same club. Haven't fired it up last week or so, needed a break.

Half way through first season, can already see this sucking my life away... luckily my laptops dead and I left my charger at home, so I can actually get some work done today! Playing 352. Top of L1, Dozzell and Jackson in particular doing the business so far. Looking to pick up a few young players who I can base the team around/sell on for money, but jeez it's hard with our finances. Championship and PL must be a real struggle!

I’ve got a decent left back who has played a dozen games for me in the PL as a 2nd year scholar who has done well but a rubbish intake this year

I managed to stay up, Leeds and Burnley drew so I had to match Leeds result to stay up and I did - we both lost - so stayed up with a massive 31 points! Signed Hamza Choudury, Tim Weah and a decent LB from Sheff U over the summer and just lost my first game of the new season (away at Man City - lead for ages but lost 2-1). The end of the window caught me out because of Qatar WC season started on 20th July so hadn't got enough deals done so still have £30m budget sitting there unspent!

What formation do you think works best in the prem? I think I’m getting overrun in midfield with the 4-4-2... My season has gone to sh1te. I’ve got 2 points from the last 10 league matches and I’m now 4 points + GD from safety. My wingers keep getting injured so I’ve ditched the 4-4-2 and gone for a 4-3-1-2. I had £2m left in January so I asked the board to negotiate a deal for a Rangers attacking midfielder valued at about £3m, they ended up spunking £15m on him! If I don’t get sacked I’m going to switch to a 4-2-3-1, but my wife midfielders can’t play further forward so I’ll need to retrain Lankester and El Mizouni and buy another winger. I’ve got 20 points from 30 games, yet still 18th. I’m not holding out any hope though, I can’t buy a win from anywhere... Although I suppose it’s not terrible, as based on budget we should be rock bottom.

I think just the lack of quality holds back whatever formation, I haven't tried it but I'd guess a strikerless one would work as finding good goalscorers is so expensive. I stick to 4222 with 2 DMs, Direct wingers and full backs pushing on - strikers stay high and just play direct when I win the ball back as get ina lot that way - as soon as the game compresses I get caught out over the top with long balls and wingers cutting in. It's bloody difficult and the step up is huge, if you can somehow stay up in Year 1 then you have a chance

FM 2020 thread on 12:39 - Jan 9 with 2647 views | FPL_Tractor | I got promoted as champions in season 1. We played 4-2-3-1 or midfield diamond most of the season but I moved to a 4-3-3 later on. Judge, Keane, KVY and Huws were the stars, while Woolfenden, Downes and Lankester became regulars. Building on the 4-3-3 now as have signed a half back and a guy from Hull to play inside forward. I signed a left sided centre back and keeper in January. We’ve played one game in Championship and fluked a win. Getting a decent fee for Bart (800k I think) really helped me shape the squad.

What roles do you have your 2 DM's as? I have a similar set up on FM19 which seemed to do me well. Haven't got FM20 yet, but will do at some point.

Ramsdale will now be sold on the cheap annoyingly, didn’t notice he has a £2m relegation release clause. In the summer I’ll need 2 GKs, a centre back, a couple of wingers and an attacking midfielder. Thinking of switching up the playing style when we’re back in the Championship.

And then it's midnight and I'm completed my preseason with wins against Rostov and Vitesse but losses against Levante and Real Madrid which was only a 4-1 loss with an Alan Judge goal. The season started well with a 2-0 lead against Burton Albion only to draw 2-2. Then a drab 0-0 vs Sunderland, a 1-0 over Newport in the cup, a heartbreaking 1-1 to Posh with them scoring in the last minute and then a win vs Wimbledon. So no losses in the League as of yet, but scope for improvement.

Still in my first season but currently unbeaten after 20 games. 2nd in the league due to a dodgy streak of draws however I did bash Posh 4-0 at their place at the start of the season. I have found a flat 4-4-2 with Downes being the ball winning midfielder is pretty effective. Jackson will be sold in the summer, probably has two one on ones every game and misses all of them. Anyone else experienced missing loads of one on ones yet regularly having outside the box rockets fly in?

I think that must be a Match Engine failure as happens to me and the opposition - about 1 in 5 one on ones goes in

FM 2020 thread on 15:33 - Jan 22 with 2284 views | tractordownsouth | Just won the play off final to bounce back straight away... I've made some decent additions to make a fist of staying up, but the only problem is I've spunked all the money and am 50k per week in deficit. I'm in the process of trying to shift Huws (on 30k a week) and Holy ( who's now third choice after I bought back Ramsdale only 6 months after selling him.) Evans has been bought out by Darragh MacAnthony so I expect some legal action if we miss out on staying up by 1 point. I also converted to a 4-2-3-1 the season before so hopefully I don't get overrun in the midfield again in the PL. Anymore progress from anyone? [Post edited 22 Jan 2020 15:34]
