Would definitely forgive Lambert a couple of changes tomorrow 09:39 - Jan 17 with 2929 viewsSomethingBlue

Keep the same structure, definitely, but Tuesday night was sapping and unless miracles have happened to Tranmere's pitch this will be too, against a team that eventually didn't have to play. Would be neither surprised nor upset to see Skuse and Nolan come in for Huws and Judge from the start. Maybe Jackson up top if he is fit although the hamstring is a big red flag for me, hopefully the right call is made. Wing-back is an area where it might be good to give someone a rest but I don't really see we have the option for that.

Last time we played Dozzer and Downes together we conceded 5 at Lincoln. I think they're too lightweight to play together at the minute, esepcially away from home.

I'd forgotten that horror show.....

My concern with skuse and downes is it's too defensive, and I've never rated Nolan at all. Not sure bishop is suited to being a cm required to do the grunt as well as the pretty stuff.

Skuse in there is fine so long as we've got Bishop or Judge ahead of them. Downes passes it well, Skuse keeps it simple but will get us moving. We're going to need to win the battle on Saturday and if Huws isn't up for another 90 minutes then only Skuse can come in and help us to win that midfield battle.

2 heavy pitches in 4 days probably isn't wise with Huws so can see Skuse coming in making sense as is going to be little quality on display.

Similar with Jackson if he has a hamstring injury on that pitch, another full week to rest may be best thing for our season - could give Sears a start ahead of Keane, even if that would be harsh on Keane

Doesn't feel a game for Nolan as not sure he'll add any of what we need

Would prefer Huws but I can’t see him featuring tomorrow.

This is a game Skuse as replacement would be most suitable for, I reckon.

Game plan will probably be more defensive and will be a slow pitch.

I think Dozzell and Downes would be fine but our major issue that game was playing 442 with that midfield, plus Edwards as an orthodox RB.

Was a funny game as we looked better at points than we had for a while but kept conceding at bad times - happy now that we seem to have gone for 3 in the midfield consistently which is needed

Thing is if you have Judge in there it's still really a two in midfield as Judge is drifting and not playing with any real positional discipline. If you've got Judge and Dozzell in there with Downes then it's asking Flynn to do pretty much all the defensive work on his own and that's too much to ask. If Bishop is fit enough to come in for Judge and it's more of a midfield three then that makes room for Dozzer as Bishop is actually pretty good at sticking his foot in and is able to handle himself physically (aside from being made of wafer).

Agreed. Might be a slightly controversial opinion given some people are now raving about Judge after a couple of decent performances in a team that's been working better as a unit, but I actually think we'd get as much if not more out of other options.

I think with almost any three out of Downes, Huws, Bishop, Dozzell and Nolan, with one given the freedom to get up to the strikers and in and around the box regularly, then you could get a very effective midfield. Maybe even with Dobra and El Mizouni in that attacking midfielder position.

Nothing against Judge but I think he's still got a bit to do this season to be automatic first-choice and also we should be developing the side and our younger players for next season.

I tend to agree. He's definitely been better the past couple of games but at times his drifting causes issues even in more of a free role. Second half on Tuesday, for example, he kept moving deep and wide to get on the ball and that left the front two isolated. He and the team then had a less effective half than the first. His legs have also gone which means he slows us down at times too, especially on the counter. I feel as though we probably have better options that would improve the balance of the side.

Play the same team. If someone gets tired take them off. Four days to recover - these are professional athletes!!

What if we start two players who we know won't last 90 minutes and then another player gets injured in the first half. We then have nowhere to go in terms of tactical subs or covering another knock.

Didn't Bishop play in the attacking MF role at Exeter, with Skuse and Dozzell in the CM roles?
