I want to be nice about Luke Chambers 07:53 - Feb 17 with 4432 viewsthebooks

Because most you horrible lot are not.

Thought he was great on Saturday. Rallied the defence after Burton murdered us down our right, even swapping positions with Woolfenden to sort the problem out. Didn't put a foot wrong.

His long ball distribution has improved no end and he’ll even make the odd overlapping run forward.

That’s all.

Still our most important defender, and his experience is invaluable at this level.

Defensively we've been very good all season bar the odd poor game.

Strange that our long term captain who gives everything to the club divides the fan base like marmite

I think a large part of the anti Chambers thought comes from the fact that he has been part of a squad that has been on a downward tragectory over the past few years, through no fault of his own per se, but due to the owner not being able/willing to invest in the squad that could compete at championship level.

Personally, I think he has been the glue that has kept things going over the rough ride we have all had in recent times, however, he has made some terrible errors in his time which have led us to conceding goals at critical points, and like goalkeepers mistakes, they are remembered more vividly.

"At FT some woman in the row in front went 'can't feel too happy about that as I fcking hate Chambers'."

Any fan who reacts like that to a meaningful goal (i.e. not when we're several goals behind) should be banned from all football for life. There's no place for them in the game.

It stood out as a particularly odd comment - for some their views on individual players (which is more based on their closeness to a certain previous manager than anything else) clouds any rational reaction to something. You can almost feel an uncomfortable shuffle when Chambers or Skuse make a good tackle, block, pass etc. at times.

I remember him getting a fair amount of stick throughout the match as it was apparently his fault for not covering the entire defensive area when Woolfenden was caught out of position on several occasions but unfortunately you expect that sort of thing.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

That's life in general isn't it.

When someone's got it in for you, you can't do anything right in their eyes.

As you say, people bring their traits and irrationalities along with them to the games.

One [ex]poster had it in for McGoldrick during a televised match and slated him for the entire game despite him playing his heart out.

At the end of the match he confessed it's because he disliked me and I'd been positive about McGoldrick's contributions which made him turn on him.

Try not to hurt your brain too much working that one out.

It's funny how players and managers (current one included) who actually care and are trying to do the right thing and give it their all, like proper professionals should do get slaughtered by some that like to hide behind a keyboard. Players like Chambo are rare in that they are genuinely decent people, clearly has a burning desire for this club to succeed. I do wonder if some are actually jealous as the player might actually care and want success more than they do. cant see any other reason why you would want to dismantle that sort of attitide

I think that's too much of a generalisation.

So do I-PJH aged 69 and six weeks.

Possibly, I think a lot is linked to their view of Mick though - those who hated Mick and still do are very anti-Chambers (and Skuse)

That's possibly true for some people as well.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Could be. Only passing on what he said, and he chats with supporters his own age on twitter. I don't know enough young supporters to comment.

Golden rule of TWTD ratings:
Chambers Skuse and Edwards always amongst the lowest
Downes and Wolfenden always amongst the highest

Doesn't matter what happens on the pitch

Yes, I do think he get's quite a lot of unwarranted stick. Even if he wasn't a regular, I'd still want him around the club and I do hope we get him involved in the coaching side of things soon. Perhaps with Hogg going to Newcastle it might open up a space in the under 23 set up to do a bit of coaching with them (same for Skuse).

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…
