Huge fixtures tonight for us... 00:19 - Feb 25 with 5358 viewsMatt_Netherlands

Coventry v Rotherham
Oxford v Accrington
Portsmouth v MK Dons
Sunderland v Fleetwood

Can’t see Accrington or MK Dons doing us a favour. Guess a draw is the best result for the Sunderland and Fleetwood game? Could also see one of Coventry or Rotherham move well and truly out of sight, more so than they already are!

Wins for Oxford, fleetwood and Pompey would make the table look absolutely hideous, leaving us 4 points off 6th having played a game more.

If everything goes against us and Coventry, Oxford, Portsmouth and Fleetwood all win tonight, the table could like this after the matches... Not at all pretty...

Coventry 32 / 63 pts
Rotherham 33 / 60 pts
----------------
Wycombe 33 / 59 pts
Sunderland 33 / 57 pts
Fleetwood 32 / 57 pts
Portsmouth 32 / 56 pts
----------------
Peterborough 33 / 55 pts
Oxford 33 / 54 pts
Ipswich 33 / 52 pts

We've shown nothing to suggest we can put in a string of performances to get into the top 6, so I'm not going to bother holding out any hope. Stuart Watson at the weekend said it feels like we're waiting to be put out of our misery again this season and I think that's about right.

Apart from being in the top 6 for the majority of the season?

I appreciate this is largely down to early season form and things have been pretty rubbish since then, but I keep hearing we have enough in our squad to beat the lesser sides in the league. We beat a mid table side 4-1 just over a week ago.

We're inconsistent, but to give up on a play off/promotion chasing campaign is silly. Bart gave up on survival last season in October/November, it's no surprise we went down hearing that.

We've taken 4 points from our last 6 games. This year we've taken 14 points from 10 games, which is an upturn on the 10 games before that but still not close to good enough to see us seriously challenge for the top 6.

One thing you're right about is that the fact we've been on the top 6 most of the season is entirely down to the good start we made, so it's not really a very helpful stat. We were clear at the top for the first few months of the season but I don't see us remotely troubling the top 2 now.

As I said, we've seen nothing since that good start to suggest that Lambert can get this side performing over a run of games to get us enough points to seriously challenge. On that basis I don't see any point me worrying myself about what other teams are doing on a night we're not playing, we don't look capable of challenging these sides.

We need to worry about our next 3 games - Blackpool (a), Fleetwood (h), Coventry (h).

THat could easily be the final nail in both ours and Lambert's coffin because i don't see where a w in is coming from - especially in the 2 home games which will upset the natives and see the crowd turn.

You don't think we can win at home to Fleetwood?!

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

We've played well in recent games? We've taken 4 points from our last 6 matches ffs.

That doesn't mean we haven't played well in those games.

I don't disagree, but there are ways of not getting promotion though - if we don't win in the next 3 and end up out of the race with 2-3 games left then the fan unrest will likely force his hand.

ST packs need to go out soon - how will they be marketed - we are going to sell our best players, and hope to do better next year with the same manager?!

As an ad man, the only thing I could think of marketing-wise is "We Go Again." And if that's the slogan for next season my pack is going straight in the recycling bin.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

No. You can play well in parts but still draw/lose. In fact you can play well the whole game and still draw/lose.

I agree that there's little point pinning hopes on other teams losing, I rarely keep an eye on results on nights we don't play. But it's always possible other sides will come into poor form like we have.

There is an argument that when KVY is back this could help us revisit that early season form. Edwards is killing us at wing back in my opinion, despite him doing his best and improving since starting there.

I'll admit this is all based on probably 65%* hope 25% expectation. I just think it's odd to wish the season was over just so the manager can go.

Christ, looks like I've lost the plot myself. 75%* hope.

I think on here it is generally pretty sensible and level headed, it is at Portman Road that some seem to have lost the plot.

If I was a supporter of any of the other teams looking at making the top six I would be thinking that "Ipswich look like they have messed it up big time" and I would be right.

Yes, sadly I go to around half our games. I think it's a stretch to say that a side can play well over a run of 6 games and only pick up 4 points, which is why you've added the caveat "in parts" in your post. Do you genuinely think that overall we've played well over our last 6 games? Deserved losses to Peterbrough, Rotherham and Sunderland, limp performances against AFC and Oxford, and one high point at home to Burton.

Garv said, "We have played well in recent games." That's it. That's a fact. We have played well in recent games, for example the first half on Saturday - we played well.

No-one suggested we've played well in all of the last 6 games. And "in parts" is implicit.

Stop looking for a row where there isn't one.

Oh the irony.

We've not played well in recent games, it's a nonsense to say we've played well when we've just taken 4 points from a possible 18. But you know that already.

You seem to be rowing left, right and centre and accusing everyone of blubbing or losing the plot whilst simultaneously defending one of the worst managers in our history. I'm pretty comfortable with where my head is at, I can't say I'm so confident in how you're doing.

Ipswich 33 / 52 pts

It really hit home to me when we beat Burton and then looked at the table and realised that we are miles off it

A lot of those teams seem to have clicked at the right time - whereas we have taken 4 points from 6.

That game vs Fleetwood was the last game we played in the league before that huge break in fixtures in October. After league fixtures returned was when we started performing poorly and had that run of six wins in 22 games and it became evident Lambert was clueless.
