So those of you with foreign holidays booked this summer 11:43 - Apr 11 with 4075 viewsEly_Blue

If the lockdown is lifted by end of June will you still be going or would you take a chance on seeing if you can cancel?

Hypothetical I know as we have no idea what is going to happen and how quickly it will happen.

I have a dilemma as I have a 2 week holiday booked for 30th June which is due to have final payment on 12th May, the dilemma is if I cancel before paying the final amount I lose the £500 deposit I have paid unless the company have specifically said they won’t be flying until after that date.

The alternative is I pay the remainder and then either cancel and claim on travel insurance (if the FCO advice is not to travel to that destination by that date) or hope that the operator isn’t back and running by that date and then take a refund.

I’m not in the habit of chucking £500 away if I can help it.

Just interested on what others are planning to do

We've booked Eurostar holiday to Marseille in July and all being offered is rebook for later and you will have to pay difference if higher. Only booked it because was relatively cheap at £800 inc train. As you say many are not going to have another holiday so small fry really. Does anyone on here understand how it works if paid by credit card? Can I ask for charge back?

An update - just checked my online banking and the full payment for the cruise I was supposed to be on, when the 23rd of March came around but which got called off on the 17th March, has been cancelled from my credit card. So chargeback looks like the best way to go.

(And I will update this if the cruise company challenge this, I think they have forty five days in which to do so.)

10 days in Croatia in August. Like you, only the deposit paid so far but all the advice I have seen is to pay in full so the ball is in the operator’s court with regard to cancellation. Obviously hoping we can go but expecting not to.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

It might not help, but at the FCO discussions are not seeing any kind of non-essential travel this side of the summer (September).

Australia and New Zealand are already saying potentially no tourists in or out until 2021.

I have an overseas trip booked for last week of September. What chance you reckon?

It is very much going to depend where you are going. Africa will be off limits for a while we believe

Just had an interesting email from Ryanair. I was supposed to be in Barcelona at the end of February, which was obviously cancelled.

We requested a refund as we were uncertain of when we’d be able to book again, so a 6-month voucher they offered us, was pointless.

The refunds were requested a week or so before we were due to fly as we understand how busy they must be processing similar things. Had an email today confirming my refund would be given when and I quote “The Pandemic Ends”. So no idea if and when I’ll be receiving that money back.

As stated above in the thread I have Dubai booked for the end of November where the payments have to be made before the end of August, this trip is booked with Emirates, but still thinking if we’re unsure if we can go in August; just take the hit by not paying anymore of the balance and just losing the deposit.

I've got a 3 week holiday in California booked starting out on June 11th , doing a road trip starting from San Francisco and going as I please really. Monterrey, Sequoia NP, Kings Canyon NP, Yosemite NP, Lake Tahoe, Reno, Lassen Volcanic NP, Mount Shasta NP, Crater Lake NP, Redwood NP, Humboldt SP (Avenue of the Giants) and back to San Francisco.

I go on my own, OH is a teacher and will be working and I love doing these solo road trips, she hates the US anyway. My last one was in 2017 for the eclipse a road trip from San Francisco to Seattle.

I've booked on BA, flight and 3 weeks car hire. I've got some accommodation booked in the NPs but other than that I just drive up and get a motel for the night or kip in the car!!

I've only paid the deposit so far £50, balance to be paid by May 8th. I'm not sure whether to cancel now and just do it all in 2021. Thing is I can't cancel at the moment as BA only dealing with people flying anywhere up to May 31st.

I'll wait until end of April.

Hire a big Harley over there quirkie for even more road trip fun if you've got a full m/bike license. Try and make the Rocky Mountain National Park above Denver too. Magical area.

Its quite interesting that some destinations, like Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, appear to have relatively escaped CV19. So will they want to open up & allow a flood of potential carriers into their countries? You wouldnt think so but they must be missing the tourism cash very badly.

That is a road trip I got planned for the future.

Start in Denver the go to Great Sand Dunes NP, Rocky Mountain NP, then up to Yellowstone NP, Grand Teton NP, then down to Utah and Arches NP, Canyonlands NP, Bryce Canyon NP, Zion NP and finally end up in Las Vegas.

Probably be 2023 for that one.
