To be fair, I'm mostly basing it on a recent Amazon Prime documentary. The talking heads on there all described him as a massive ego (more so than talent, originally) and that he got to where he did by hanging out with the right crowd. He was nothing special initially. And then he got into drugs. | |

When didn't he pay his band? I'm guessing you might be going back as far as the 70s here but I'd be interested to know more about it. Is it a bit like the time the othe half of the Smiths took Morrissey and Marr to court to get their share of the band's royalties? Saying that, Bowie generally worked with a backing band rather than being part of a band as such. Still, if he didn't pay people what they are owed then that is scummy behaviour.
To be honest though, I'm more referring to seeing and listening to him in my lifetime and he's always come across well to me. Certainly he's come across a lot better than certain other musicians, who if anything have become more kunty with age. | |
