Now it's official you can go on long walks 18:25 - Apr 16 with 5579 views | bluelagos | and drive to get to them, the attached may of use. Loads of local walks from 2-3 miles to all-dayers (12-15 miles) Be sure to start at an appropriate length and to take enough food and water as any cafes/pubs are going to be shut. If you need a map - there's loads you can use on your phone including ordinance survey. I like MapsMe too - log where you start so you can always get back if you get lost. https://www.ramblers.org.uk/go-walking/find-a-walk-or-route.aspx?layer=routes,wa And trust me - these walks are empty. I did the Shotley one yesterday and saw about 6 people all day.

Now it's official you can go on long walks on 17:23 - Apr 17 with 532 views | solemio | I've come late to this thread. In the middle of the night before last a man in the flats over the road from us came out onto his third floor balcony screaming and shouting that he wanted to die and that he was going to jump. Neighbours kept him talking until trained police arrived and he was taken off to receive expert help. The only point I'm making is the blindingly obvious one that mental health is very very important too. Getting out is vital for many folk. Mind you, I only heard about this in the morning from our next-door neighbour; I'd slept through all this.

Now it's official you can go on long walks on 17:07 - Apr 17 by bluelagos | The police have clarified that it is ok to drive for exercise. And nowhere are we told we can only do an hour's exercise - that was never part of the govt. guidelines. So as it stands, we are allowed to exercise more than an hour and to drive (a reasonable distance) to do so. The police guidance was issued yesterday. [Post edited 17 Apr 2020 17:08]

This is the guidance I am referring to. Both myself and ullua noticed a big change in the numbers of people about and using public transport in close proximity today. This doesn't seem great for cities. You only seem to be looking at it from a rural perspective in your posts. It's possible people have taken the new guidance to basically do what they like. Guess we will find out over the next few days. SB [Post edited 17 Apr 2020 17:25]

Scary isn't it. We are hearing of significant increases in domestic violence too and the impact on vulnerable children is very real. Getting outside is so important for people and their well being. Albeit some people think I am the devil for encouraging it...

Ah right. Yeah, of course I am rural biased in my knowledge, fair point. Although of course getting outside is as important for those in cities, albeit much harder given the social distancing issues. I guess we will see if the new guidance causes them to reverse the guidelines. Hope you are wrong but can't say otherwise. Haven't been out of the countryside today so no insights to offer.

You arnt the devil. Its the length of time. It was never that everyone could be out for hours that you are advocating. Imagine if people carried on like you in big towns and cities. Everyone would be out in each others way. How does a lockdown work then? There would be no point as everyone would be on a 20 mile ride, 18 mile walk, 5 hour run etc. No one would be in lockdown. Thats where you need to be sensible.

Now it's official you can go on long walks on 17:10 - Apr 17 by r2d2 | You are a very irresponsible person for encouraging this. Do what you want, but you shouldn't be telling others its right. The nation has been told it is in lockdown, you however are telling people to go out there for hours on end. Its not what the country has been told. Selfish little man. |
May I point out that I think Lagos is a Prince amongst men. His posts or often thought provoking and the bpard was a poorer place for his absence. We rarely agree on politics and on this issue I think he is wrong but there is no need to insult the bloke.

Now it's official you can go on long walks on 17:04 - Apr 17 by bluelagos | I think if you believe (as I do) that exercise is good for people - then I am more than happy to encourage them to get as much as they can. All whilst being responsible and socially distancing. At the moment we have a number of people struggling with their mental health, so yeah, I will continue to encourage them to get outside for their wellbeing. And I get outside as often as I can, for my own wellbeing. If you think that makes me selfish, you are entitled to your opinion. It is not one I share, but hey, such is life. And if you think I care for or seek your approval, you are wrong. I don't. Enjoy your night / weekend. |
Seems to have confused “a long isolated walk in the middle of no where” for “a picnic on a bench with all your mates”
