Now it's official you can go on long walks 18:25 - Apr 16 with 5567 viewsbluelagos

and drive to get to them, the attached may of use. Loads of local walks from 2-3 miles to all-dayers (12-15 miles)

Be sure to start at an appropriate length and to take enough food and water as any cafes/pubs are going to be shut.

If you need a map - there's loads you can use on your phone including ordinance survey. I like MapsMe too - log where you start so you can always get back if you get lost.

And trust me - these walks are empty. I did the Shotley one yesterday and saw about 6 people all day.

Still preaching l see. Im not sure you should be encouraging this. You are at it all the time on here. If the whole country had carried on like you have we would be in a much tighter lockdown. Because you have pretty much ignored everything you have been told and gone wherever you want for as long as you want. Selfish really.

Have a read, then let me know where it says that extended walks or rides are not allowed.

And in case you were unaware, our laws are made in parliament rather than press conferences or TV interviews. If you have a problem with my following the law as prescribed, I'd suggest you take it up with the people who make those laws.

And if you can't cope with that - suggest you put me on ignore.

Totally ancedotal of course but there seemed to be a lot more people riding on and queuing for buses when I nipped out earlier.

Might not be related to the announcement but not ideal. Might work very well in the countryside but perhaps not in the city.

We will see, might just have been a weird time or weird day.

I'm getting a little bit confused... where is this announcement of relaxing of the guidelines from the government (as opposed to any news channels interpretation of it)?

from the link you've given there, it still says:

"You should only leave the house for very limited purposes:

- shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
- one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
- any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
- travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.
These reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household."

Announcement being the extension?

Think the forecast is poor this weekend so that will help keep people in doors.

Funny you say that mr- me and little one went on a little ride today and I notice exactly the same thing: more cars and more people by far. I wonder whether the lockdown is breaking down - it was pretty dramatic.

You have been banging on about doing as you please before any of this. I think you are a very selfish little man. If everyone had carried on like you have, being out hours at a time, the lockdown would have been a lot tighter than it has been. You have encouraged it day after day on here. I dont think its something that should be encouraged. We are in lockdown for a reason. Not so you can bike miles, sit drinking coffee or having pic nics wherever you fancy. It shouldnt be encouraged. In fact you should be strongly discouraged.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.

Announcement meaning the clarification of the rules you have laid out in this thread. It does seem to have changed peoples mindsets (anecdotally) and not for the better in a crowded city.

People getting the bus to go for a walk is not a good idea.

I think if you believe (as I do) that exercise is good for people - then I am more than happy to encourage them to get as much as they can. All whilst being responsible and socially distancing.

At the moment we have a number of people struggling with their mental health, so yeah, I will continue to encourage them to get outside for their wellbeing.

And I get outside as often as I can, for my own wellbeing.

If you think that makes me selfish, you are entitled to your opinion. It is not one I share, but hey, such is life. And if you think I care for or seek your approval, you are wrong. I don't.

Enjoy your night / weekend.

The police have clarified that it is ok to drive for exercise. And nowhere are we told we can only do an hour's exercise - that was never part of the govt. guidelines.

So as it stands, we are allowed to exercise more than an hour and to drive (a reasonable distance) to do so.

The police guidance was issued yesterday.

You are a very irresponsible person for encouraging this. Do what you want, but you shouldn't be telling others its right. The nation has been told it is in lockdown, you however are telling people to go out there for hours on end. Its not what the country has been told. Selfish little man.

OK, thank you, I'll look that out.

I assume the part where it said about 'even when doing these activities, minimising the time spent outside of the home' in the government guidelines is the bit that has been interpreted as an hour? I would think that's closer to the ideal than extended periods?
