I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Quaner was absolute dog sh1t

I know. It was hard to dislike him though because you could tell he really tried. Feel like I spent a lot of time laughing when he was playing. Like a worse Frank Nouble.

I survived Ipswich 0-0 Burton

And some. His crossing was fcking hopeless!!

Can't remember his defensive abilities tbf which must have been at least half decent, cos he sure as hell wasn't in the team for his crossing.

Harbey was in the team because he was decent defensively and had a great understanding with David Lowe. He read Lowe's runs very well.

Haynes was a brilliant 'instinctive' player but the second he had to do any kind of thinking he went to pieces. He'd bury the bullet crosses that required pure reaction but hopelessly spoon his one-on-ones.

Always had a bitter chuckle watching him put on the afterburners and go Mach5 down the wing, only to run the ball straight over the byline without seeming to even change direction!

Well.......there's this one goalkeeper who, whilst he wasn't the best wasn't as bad as people made out, who I quite liked.

Not sure if I should add him to this thread though, 'cos like I said he wasnt really that crap.

On balance there have probably been worse keepers.

Just none that have ever played for Town.

Ever.

Even when outfielders had to go in goal.

It is very funny the way people rush to do down ALB, given that the team of that period always seemed to put together its longest unbeaten run or best sets of results when he was in goal. It’s like people feel that the Number 3 goalkeeper got ideas above his station by playing as many games as he did.

Did he have as good a career as Richard Wright, Asmir Begovic, David Stockdale, Marton Fulop or Alex McCarthy - of course not. But he took home more win bonuses for us than all of them barring Wright, so I’d have him in goal for this thread in a heartbeat.

Darren Currie? Good at going forward but could never get back quick enough to make a difference.

Darren Currie was a class act, not sure you can describe him as “a bit crap”

Currie's football was a class act. His running ability wasn't.

So people said at the time but I’m reliably informed that he was one of the players that regularly covered the most ground in games statistically, even if he was a #slowwinger

The same criticism could be levelled at many flair players, Reuser, McGoldrick, etc.

Are we in danger of falling out WD? it feels like we might be reaching critical threshold to me.

But.....

You can turn it all round.

Repeat after me "ALB wasn't as bad as people make out".

You don't even need to say he was good, but do that and we'll be fine.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

Fair point.

Stanley Matthews had both, I can reliably inform you.

I’m sure but you’re talking about a completely different age of football where the physical requirements are almost incomparable, let alone playing styles/formations/roles/etc
