Train simulator in steam 08:26 - May 12 with 2974 views | giant_stow | We're currently stuck at a red signal less than a mile outside redhill and I'm expected to sit and watch this drama unfold. 4 mins late and counting. [Post edited 12 May 2020 8:28]

Still at rhe red wonderring if we're dealing with a signal failure. I paid £19 for this route and this is my reward!

Oh so you're one of those people that actually buys train simulator. I've never got the appeal. Flight simulators always seemed more fun. And the new Microsoft one looks absolutely gorgeous.

Yes indeed, probably just over 100 quid to date as you simply have to biy nrw routes (if you're a muggy and desperate dad!) Edit: getting a train driving lesson now [Post edited 12 May 2020 9:03]

You'd be surprised how many real life truck drivers play Euro Truck Simulator in their spare timer.

Most unusual pastime I've heard of are is the Edidie Stobart lorry spotters. Mate used to drive an ES lorry and had to park at the edge of the mororway services for fear of being spotted. He would have to allow them to photograph the truck, they were even allowed in to look at the interior of the cabin. Still, yesterday I sat in high winds with my balls fast approaching my armpits so probably cant say too much.

How realistic is it, do you get rail replacement buses if you try and use it on a weekend?

I am lookinging forward to the imminent release of Walking Simulator, where I will be able to take a stroll through all the best parks and beauty spots from the comfort of my own chair.

We haven;t bought the London - Norwich route, so no idea. Bus Simulators are available though - the Germans seem keen from what I can pick up.

You'll be happy to know there is actually a whole genre of games that are dubbed "Walking Simulators". https://store.steampowered.com/tags/en/Walking+Simulator#p=0&tab=TopSellers

That's supposed to be a very good game, think it even won a Bafta. The developers that made it also made what is arguably the first "walking simulator" called Dear Esther.

I know of seafarers who play ship simulator. On board. I’ve told my crew if they want to come up on a deep sea passage and steer the actual ship, they can. I still take it out of autopilot and steer for a little while when I first join. Each ship has it’s own little idiosyncrasies, and I like to be able to give helm orders with confidence.

That's fantastic! It's also amazing how sophisticated some of these industry simulators have become, particularly flight simulators. Pilots use them even once they've learned to fly to learn about new planes and airport layouts. Imagine it will get even crazier once VR is properly integrated.
