Lampard wouldn’t come here in the championship because of no money. The day after Evans is announced as 188th richest man in the country.

Evans does, but at the most peculiar times. Gives Mick sod all even when we were challenging and then opens up the cheque book to people who've done nothing to warrant it like Hurst and Keane. It's all very odd.

Keane was his big gamble. Hurst's funds were all generated through him selling off our best players.

As I have said before, wealth - in the manner of rich lists - is not a straightforward thing.

That net worth will be based primarily upon the notional value of his companies. It is not cash in the bank. It is not even money he could easily get hold of in the real world.

The reason Derby can outspend us is because their owner sold his (much smaller) business before buying the club. He is now cash rich (but no longer has a company to keep earning him money). Thus he has cash to put in.

All Evans has is what's spare after running his business.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Evans may well be wealthy , but it’s about how his money is tied up. And “tied up”, is probably exactly what it is eg inaccessible.

On the question of Lampard not wanting to come here, due to budget restraints. It’s been shown that throwing money at it doesn’t work, Magilton, Keane, Jewell et al all had decent budgets for Championship in their day, but none did anything with it. McCarthy also had money, he just chose to use it in freebies who would command high wages. Again, we failed.

Lampard, went to high spending Derby... then on to bankrolled Chelsea. Has he achieved anything?
You could argue having too much money to spend encourages “waste”, and careless decision making. Hurst being a good example. He had more money to spend than McCarthy, yet he brings in a squad full of League One standard players......and that’s where we now are.

Oh he’s skint then?

We know he doesn't have liquid cash, lets not plead poverty though.

It could be argued that McCarthy’s big wage free signings provided us with our most competitive squad of the last 12 years: McGoldrick, Berra, Skuse and Murphy were all brought in that way and got us to a certain level. It was when we needed a little extra quality in the areas we were lacking i.e. creative midfield that we looked to Evans and Evans looked at the floor.

Magilton, Keane and Jewell all let him down, but he failed Mick and the minute he started being failed by his managers again, we were f–ked.
Harry Redknapp may be talking out of his hat about Lampard turning down the job here, but I can well believe Lampard would have considered what Evans could offer him if he took the job and thought he would be set up to fail. Well done, Marcus. We’re so lucky to have you....

Problem for the Derby owner, is that when the money he received for selling his company runs out. Which could well be happening now. For Town the problem could if ME's companies fail to produce profits for him to invest in the club. With this pandemic could happen soon.

The issue is that he doesn't have the levels of liquid cash to inject the funds to compete in the Championship. Ian Milne said to us on Life's a Pitch on a number of occasions, he invests as much as he feels he is able.
