One of the flip-sides to a list of number ones like this is, I've noticed when watching the old reruns of Top of the Pops on BBC4 which is currently going through 1989, there are some songs that never got anywhere near the top 5 you now hear occasionally, sometimes covered, considered all-time classics from a past generation but only got to no. 24. As well as other songs that got in the top 10 that I have no recollection of whatsoever.
