Thought I'd test the water using Gumtree to sell my car... And within 24 hours have pulled the ad.
Received a series of unsolicited sales calls, not had one for years before this.
Two people indicated interest. One of whom had an M.O. That sounded very close to a scam I'd heard of. Didn't want to come and kick tyres, wanted bank details to make an upfront payment.

Had similar trying to sell a sofa on Gumtree last year.
Buyer wanted to pay in full for the 'amazing' sofa on PayPal, and send an 'Agent' round to collect it as they were recovering from throat cancer.
Obvious scam, and I messaged back as such, giving them both barrels in the process.
Although part of me still worries I denied a dying person their bucket list sofa. [Post edited 26 Jun 2020 6:10]

We sold my wife's car on Gumtree with no problem, although admittedly that was probably 7 years ago or so.
Youngish couple, girl was pregnant (we were selling a Vauxhall Meriva) and her Dad came with them, deal concluded in no time and that was it. |  |
