Ha! True, although the department name is a little misleading. The DoE has responsibility for the Nuclear Weapons Program, reactor production for the Navy, radioactive waste and for some reason they're involved in the research of the human genome.

Unfortunately conspiracy theories are self-confirming and thus once someone is in their grasp anything can be worked into the conspiracy and anyone trying to highlight anything which goes against the conspiracy can be written off as part of the conspiracy.
They are the ultimate example of an echo chamber.
On a lighter note they can also be the remit of the bad loser. There has been a "treasure hunt" ongoing in the US for years:
