All aboard! on 19:43 - Aug 18 by BlueBadger | It's pre-season game against a rather weak Colchester side. Come back and gloat when we're promoted in March. |
You're the first div I've put on the list, congratulations

You may not have cared but you'd be using it as a stick to beat Lambert with on here (or at least some of the Lambert-outers would). Not unjustifiably to be fair. It'd be a bit worrying if we'd lost to a weak Colchester and certain individuals had not looked fit/ready/up for it. Sounds like some of the players looked good which is more encouraging than if they'd looked bad, but I agree it's largely a training/fitness exercise.

Nice goal just then though. Fook knows who scored it though, as I've had to turn the commentary off and the picture seems to be made up about 20 pixels.

I genuinely wouldn't have said a thing, because tonight really tells us nothing new about Lambert as a manager. Nice to see the likes of Lankester and Bishop getting some minutes in this evening but the results are meaningless. On a side note, interesting to see us lining up playing a 4-3-3 in both games and I hope this is something we persevere with. We need to find a shape and system that works for us, we've lacked that for 2 years now.

Spot on. Finding and persevering with a shape is vital for us. We have good players, the team needs an identity and a defined way of playing that they can all slot into and know what they are doing. The squad is huge, anyone who isn't able to fit into the shape should be gone if possible. SB

Some positive signs last night, but one swallow doesn't make a summer. I just hope he finds a formula and sticks with it, and we can make a success of it, the jury is out for me, but I would be ecstatic to be proved wrong, and would gladly eat a desperate dan sized humble pie if so.

I do wonder if you chop and change formations that in the cut and thrust of battle players sometimes forget which formation they're playing and then get caught out of position? It would make sense, and footballers don't tend to be the brightest.

That's a fair point. I think as well that most modern footballers are in a club system from such a young age and they are so used to being coached and drilled from very early on, they kind of continue to need that. That's not to say they have no flexibility or initiative but they work in the week on systems and patterns of play that they can then replicate in a match and if you change system constantly you can't really do that.

I think your right, the constant tinkering last season must have had an effect, in essence players never really knowing what was expected of them. I also think with a fully fit KVY and Norwood, with some promising youth and a settled formation we should really be challenging this season at the very least.

Absolute nonsense. You would be all over that like a rash if we had drew 0-0 or lost, along with a few others.

I can imagine the faff you would get yourself in now if we have drawn that game last night, would have been comical. [Post edited 19 Aug 2020 11:41]
