Most fancy place to eat in Suffolk 11:06 - Aug 28 with 4359 views | clive_baker | Where do you reckon it is? Not talking about necessarily the best food but what would you say is the most 'fancy'?

Most fancy place to eat in Suffolk on 16:19 - Aug 28 with 1036 views | Matt_Netherlands | Luke Chambers' favourite The Marquis must be up there, purely because I can't think of many other places in Suffolk which charge £25 for a burger or £25 for a Sunday roast! Has anyone ever been, to say whether it's worth it? https://themarquissuffolk.co.uk/

Most fancy place to eat in Suffolk on 16:04 - Aug 28 by TractorWood | I've only been to Tuddenham Mill once. It was a celebration meal at my first temping job in an office. It was really awkward because they were celebrating a great year that I had not contributed to in any way but also the value of the food and booze I consumed was far more than I was paid for a number of days temping. Midsummer House is infamous for its many course menus and being eye wateringly expensive. Heard it's decent though. [Post edited 28 Aug 2020 16:10]

Yeah it was expensive (not much change from £500 for the 2 of us) but it will always be there in the memory as the best place I’ve ever been to, funny thing was my wife was trying to find a Saturday with spaces when Town weren’t at home for us to go and we would have been looking at well into April this year rather than the later half of Feb when my birthday was, as it was we ended up actually going on my birthday which was a Thursday night, so glad we did otherwise we may never have gone, especially now that since reopening they have put the price up considerably (probably to take account of not being able to accommodate so many tables now)

Me and the wife spunked the best part of a grand eating at the Fat Duck (Heston’s restaurant) a couple of years back, as a one-off treat That sounds mental however I can genuinely say it was worth every penny - not just the best meal I’ve ever had but the whole evening was probably one of the most enjoyable I’ve ever had, just a ridiculously good experience

As you say, as a one-off experience, why not? It's not something you're likely to do for every birthday! Have you found as a negative consequence though, that you've found yourself judging the standards every time you've eaten out anywhere since?

Most fancy place to eat in Suffolk on 18:13 - Aug 28 with 961 views | solomon | Lavenham swan is always good (not quite the same level or experience as the Talbooth, but close) The un Ruly pig near Woodbridge is good too (maybe not fancy in the strictest sense) other than those and millsoms you are quite limited in and around Ipswich for absolute fine dining, maybe incomes in Ipswich are lower than say Bury st Edmunds and that area?

I did worry that might happen but hasn’t been the case! I think because it’s so different from a normal meal it doesn’t really act as a point of comparison Why not exactly - obviously it’s a massive amount but then most people wouldn’t bat an eyelid spending well in excess of than that on holidays etc, which may be longer but ultimately is just spending money going somewhere to enjoy something!

I actually think the fanciest in Ipswich is probably Mariners in the traditional sense. Not somewhere I’ve ever been particularly wowed by the food though Unruly is obviously the best food if counting as in the Ipswich area, but agree I wouldn’t really class it as fancy - in fact it was probably fancier when it was the Great British Larder! Know exactly where you're coming from. It's not like something daft like people paying out good money to watch other humans kicking a bag of air about or something, shouting their heads off at them, in some kind of arena. That would be ridiculous.

It was worth every penny and I’d love to go back again one day, next on the list is another 2*, Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham

If I’m paying out that kind of money for the experience as a whole, I want a bit both.

I’ve been to Michelin places all over Europe and Sat Bains is definitely the best meal I’ve ever had, absolutely brilliant. My last journey was to Ynyshir in Wales. An experience worth checking out, certainly not like any other dining experience I have had and a really beautiful setting.

Yep - one of my favourite places as well. The asian duck tacos are incredible. They've got a Josper grill so the steak and roast meats are exquisite.

Pea Porridge is about 10 doors down the road for us. It is truly exceptional. A hidden secret. Great wine list and food to die for.
