Where do you place us this season? 14:54 - Aug 30 with 6003 viewsBluefish

Regardless of Shambert I think we should be top 4. Last season he messed about so much that we failed but even with his lack of tactial ability I think we can be top 4

Similarly you aren't going to concede a lot of goals if the opposition let you have most of the ball.

I think saying we only conceded X many goals therefore the defence is good is pretty simplistic.

Your first paragraph isn't what happened in most games though. You're making out like we were treated with reverence and sides didn't dare attack us, that really wasn't the case. The defence was good enough, they kept a lot of clean sheets and we didn't concede many overall. We had two horror shows against Peterborough and Lincoln that skew our record somewhat as well. We conceded a quarter of our goals in those two games. Our issue was very clearly an inability to create chances and score goals.

Absolutely. Aimlessly passi the ball around midfield without a thought for fashioning some kind of effort at those weird white sticks at the end of the pitch was our problem

I think our main problem was that we didn't score enough goals. I don't think our defence was promotion quality either.

I don't think teams treated us with reverence, but equally I think a lot of them were happy enough to sit back and wait for an error. I struggle to remember any games where the opposition were all over us and a consummate defensive performance eked out a point or three that we didn't deserve. I can think of several where individual errors from defenders saw the opposition come away with points/results that flattered them.

Have to agree to disagree I think.

I don't agree-I think the squad was good enough for a top 2 last season and as the squad has not (yet) changed dramatically it should be good enough to do well this season.

I do not think the problem is squad strength.

Bigger problem is keeping key players fit imo. Keep the likes of Bishop Huws Norwood Lankester KVY and Sears fit and there is no reason why we shouldn’t go up automatically

Good squad, sh1te team. The squad WAS good enough to finish 2nd but where did they actually finish? This is down to Paul I'm afraid so we will finish mid table if he remains in charge.

I think you've got to think about the context more. Wycombe sat deep and let the opposition have the ball in almost every game they played. They had a lot more defending to do than our lot did. The point they took off us was essentially because their defence could handle dozens of different defensive situations, whilst ours was undone by one straight long ball.

Re: the goal at Wycombe - I think the defence were more undone by the goalkeeper’s decision to suddenly play at central defensive midfield instead of letting the three of them close the man down.
