Would Mike Ashley be so bad? 13:38 - Sep 2 with 4810 viewsBlueandTruesince82

Yes he is Mike Ashley but....

If he gets £300 mil for NU (should he find someone who is not dodgier than Arthur Daly to sell it to) that's a big chunk of change to play with.

Town can't cost more than £25 to £50 million and even that seems over the odds, Evans would need to write off a large chunk of debt and think he would just to be rid so that would leave £250 mil burning a hole in Ashleys pocket... if he spent a fraction of that it would still be more than Evans stumps up.

A half decent manager and £5 mil should get us out of l1?

Also I would be able to feel less guilty about buying from his retail empire.

@gavTWTD.... have you heard anything on this or is it all tabloid journo conjecture?

And then firing them and replacing them with Alan Pardew.

Rafa was post Pardew and Bruce has done well.... even Pardew did ok there for a while....

As for Rangers not his club so he was v happy to screw them over selling of shirts.

I'm not saying he a messiah but I am saying if hes 250 mil up he has the spending power to get us to progress.... is any diffrent to Levy (I know he doenst own spurs but operates the club similar)

ME we are told (by Stuart Watson a few times) would sell Town for around £25m and write off the debts that are owed to him BUT any potential buyer would have to fork out a certain percentage of any future success (like reaching the Prem and it's sky monies) that ME feels he should receive for having kept the club afloat for the last ten years or so. Would any buyer, especially Mike Ashley, agree to those sort of terms? Unlikely I reckon. ME is going to be our owner for a few years yet.

We would be nothing more than a play thing for Ashley to throw loose change at. But he wouldn't make a lot from a structurally small club like us so he wouldn't be interested in us.

He chase big bucks, not peanuts which is what he'd get from us.

Someone with ability to put in more money than Evans is a moot point until we escape L1 as we are currently completely handicapped by the salary cap.

At the end of the day, Ashley is just a business man first and foremost that's it. He's in it for money. He is screwing Newcastle and the Rangers for money. He dug his deep claws into Rangers and they're only just escaping his clutches, contracts and underhand dealings a few years after he left them with merchandise deals that boosted his empire and did very little for the club itself.

Firstly, he would screw us up far worse. Secondly, he just is in it to make as much money as he can for HIMSELF, not the club. Thirdly, he would be looking for a 'big' club, we do not compare to Newcastle or Rangers in the revenue pull he would be looking to exploit.

He is bad news. Knowing Rangers fans, he is nearly as bad as Craig Whyte.

It's a massive no for me.

Basically what's happening to us now then?

But they were in the Championship for one season with players on 80k a week including Mitrovic, Gayle, Matt Ritchie Shelvey and a whole host of others hardly a surprise they went up straight away and hardly a comparison with us.

I think the reason being he may do the same for us. Evans certainly won't.

As someone who grew up in Newcastle, I can't tell you how much he is despised up there, and for wholly understandable reasons.

His treatment of club legends (Shearer and Keegan) was outrageous, refusing to even speak to Shearer following the first relegation in 2009 and instead appointing Chris Hughton as full time manager without even a courtesy call. Consistently lied to and misled Keegan during his second spell as manager (Keegan eventually winning a court case against him).

Plasters his Sports Direct logo all over the stadium, to the point where it becomes an annoyance to go to games, and re-naming the famous old stadium the SPORTS DIRECT ARENA.

If you think he would be a significant improvement on Evans with regard to spending money, think again. Ashley hasn't put a penny of his own money into the club in years - despite the fact he gets multi-million pound advertising opportunities at the club for free, and consistently banks millions in years in TV revenue. Any money spent has either been raised through previous sales (e.g. Ayoze Perez at £30m) or he takes a loan from a bank that the club has to pay back in yearly instalments to bankroll the first club record signing since Michael Owen in 2004 (the £20m spent on Miguel Almiron).

In case you think that he would bring success - bear in mind that out of the 13 seasons prior to Ashley's ownership, Newcastle played in Europe in 12 of those seasons. In the 13 seasons since, Newcastle have played in Europe just once.

There was a survey done that came out today showing Newcastle are the most pessimistic fans in the whole league regarding their chances for this season. Ashley is not the answer.

That is a difficult one. I would like somebody to guide us back to the top, so yes, but on a moral side, it is a no. I guess he would give us a brighter future as per league and position, but it is Mike Ashley. Really not sure how I would feel about it. If pushed I would take him over Evans, but, it is Mike Ashley.

"Where are we? " Exactly, why would Ashley buy a club in the doldrums of League One when it could take two years at least to start making any money and that's if we got double promotion which is a massive gamble and the chances of it happening are more unlikely than likely.

Perhaps he has a hatred of Norwich? Most people do.

So depsite going down Ashley still facilitated 80k a week..... as opposed to Evans stretching for a 10?

I accept Ashley is a Wad but think we are probably more suited to his budget and we'd get more out of him then Evans.

If other white knights exist I'd be happy to see them gallop over tne hill

Yes. He is only in it for the money. He's ruined us, asset stripped us and had invested nothing into the club for years. He pathetically doesn't stock Newcastle shirts in SD because of a stupid stand off he has with us. You should avoid him and wait until someone declares a real interest. Evans is no better as he's just like Ashley he's ruined Ipswich.

Both are culpable of mismanagement and misjudgements over managerial appointments

ipswichboy, I seriously would not even consider Mike Ashley as your owner. He has ruined Newcastle United and set us back many years with 2 reckless and careless relegations, which were easily preventable.

The man has no morals, he does not care who he upsets and the meetings he had with MPs just shows how much contempt he has for authority or being held accountable for anything.

We've had 13 years of him and many of us don't go to games simply because he is there.

If you think Evans is that bad you know nothing until you get Mike Ashley. Trust me, you'll be crying for Evans back in no time at all.

Ashley is a businessman and a parasite. He won't give us a second thought other than how to intentionally screw us over and make as much money for himself as he can.

He maybe better suited to Town, closer to London? Who knows

He is basically Evans on a bigger scale but seems to have a better track record on managers at the very least

Indeed, there is a whole world of guff out there, but the idea of Ashley buying a league one club is not one that has just been pulled out of TWTD's collective @rse.

And buying failed brands who were formerly great is kind of his whole business model

It was suggested he had plans for BHS in Ipswich and to create a mini-department store featuring various shops he owns so he will have some involvement Ipswich, one way or the other

I understand where you're coming from (and agree), but that's a hard sell to a team in League 1 who could only dream of being where you are under Ashley.
