Off tomorrow to Penzance to start Sunday morninng on a 1250 mile ride from Lands End to O'Groats.

After gettng to Bath we cross the Welsh border before skirting the Peak district on up through Cumbria before skirting the weat coast of Scotland via Oban, Ullapool and finally JoG.

So far have managed 3950 miles training, longest ride 72 miles, most challenging ascent 3000 ft in 30 miles.

The longest day will be 82 miles, the biggest ascent 9000 ft the day we ride to Skipton

3 crashes so fsr, only 1 at speed, the other two unclipping fails. Attacked yesterday by a wasp that got inside my mouth and left me looking like the Elephant man for a few hours. (Pic on the link)

Paying for the trip but seemed silly not to raise a few quid for a good cause too. Chose an Ipswich based foodbank that I know help the most needy, when they need it.

Thanks to all who have already thrown in a few quid and any more gratefuly received.

77 miles to Buxton today. Flattish, unlike tommorow with 8k ft ascents...

You're quite mad even to attempt this. The feeling when you finish will be out of this world!

Nightmare day.

Started with a crash for cycling partner. Dangerous bend onto a hill and a couple of riders found wrong gear and stopped on hill. Riding partner had to stop, failed to unclip, went down and hot head on wall and hip on floor. He has a possible broken pelvis and is off the tour and back to Essex tomorrow and A&E for check up / xray.

The route was a bit mental. Direct easy route 67 miles and 2k ascent. Our tour was planned 77 miles 8k of ascent. Fiik why.

Anyhow, I bailed out after 11 hours still 12 miles short. My Garmin was flat and it was soon to be dark. Riding on lanes with potholes,, gravel and no idea of which way to go, managed 65 miles but annoying not to the whole route.

So plan is to,start at 6.30 from where I stopped, grab breakfast and then do tomorrows 80 miles. Might well be too much, but going to give it a go...

Good luck, that sounds like a tough one!

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Bloodyell Lagos, sorry to hear that, all best wishes to your cycling partner, fingers crossed he's OK & it's not a break.

Wise to know when to pull out - it's the overall haul that counts most. G'luck tomorrow 👍

Woke w up with the sh1ts so decided to have a rest day. My body needs it tbh.

So will mean 1250 becomes 1160 if I do the rest, which is still more than the 900 odd many do...

Ah well, not cycling with a dicky belly

So George hs been to a&e and no brake confirmed. He is on a zimmer frame to move around lol

So missed the 80 miles by 7 today, but felt quite good, just got timed out by the dark again. Crossed the road into Windermere but it was dual carriage way and didnt want to ride that or the unlit lanes.

Anyhow, google maps has 67 as the cycle distance and did 73 to a morale victory even if 80 was the plan :-)

Tomorrow onto Dumfries

Back on it. 80 miler to Dumfries.

First 40, lanes, ups and downs, farm gates, sheep, took 6 hours to Carlise.

Last 40, what I am used to, flat, quiet roads, good surfaces, about 3.5 hours.

Red lights when you are in a hurry? 😈

"Farm gates, sheep" - part of the way is cross country using tracks?

What "friend" planned your route?!

Yeah that's horrendous. I can't imagine doing that.

Are you entirely alone now then? How's your mate getting on?

Part of a small group. Having to dine in 2 tables due to the six max rules.

Organised cycling holiday with routes planned by the holiday firm.

I’ve never ridden for more than 4.5 hours in a day. Do you have ‘sea legs’ when you get off or is walking generally OK because you’re now used to it?
Are you feeling your fitness improve day by day as you ride more or are you draining the tank daily?
Sorry for all the questions but it sounds a fascinating trip - I’ll sponsor you in return!

Defo ups and downs.

Today miles 0 to 10, no probs.

10 @ 20 bonked big time, very slow.

20 - 34 was ok.

Cos I was slow, the organiser picked me up 34 to 60 for lunch.

30 mins 8n car, 15 lunch, flew the final 23. Even won the race to the hotel in final 2 miles.

So all in think we were 84 miles and I missed 26 so 58 miles. Could defo ride another 20 now, feel fine. But was proper fcked at 10 this morning.

Fueling is important and a light breakie this morning was not wise!
