Has made 765 appearances for them, that’s more than Mick Mills made for Ipswich

Incredible

I remember being at the National Hockey stadium in around 2004/2005 when we played them there. That was when they lost everyone like Jobi McAnuff, Reo-Cocker etc and Lewington was one of the only (at the time) talented youngsters who stayed.

It’s unbelievable, and only just signed a new deal.

Remarkable really.

I think he's in his 17th season, which is mad. He's still very decent at left back though, so defying his age somewhat. That'll properly be an end of an era when he hangs his boots up, considering he was a professional player before they were a professional club, and moved over as a founding squad member from Wimbledon.

Mills went on to play regularly for 4-5 seasons after leaving us. He was here from the age of 17, but was not established as a regular for three seasons. So, with all those subsequent appearance it just shows what a professional career can amount to if you manage to avoid serious injury while making yourself undroppable from an early age. Few manage to pass both those tests, or resisting a transfer that can often lead to being more easily droppable when among better players.

Yes that's true - they played at MK but were still called Wimbledon. I remember going to that game - properly confused me when I tried to look it up recently as I could have sworn they were MK Dons, but not so.

Bent and Kuqi, 2-1. How far we've fallen from even then!

Wimbledon 1-2 Town 27th Mar 2004 17:55
Town made it three wins in three as they defeated Wimbledon 2-1 at the National Hockey Stadium in Milton Keynes. Two goals within a minute of one another 20 minutes from the end scored by Darren Bent and Shefki Kuqi won the Blues the points, Gary Smith notching the Dons' goal. 0

He played 30 or so games for Wimbledon in MK before the name change as well - it's basically 50 games a season for his whole career!

He's currently playing in the middle of a back 3 for them

Fairly surreal away day that, we took a fairly large following and IIRC some people were basically stood behind the hoarding on the side of the pitch, and when leaving we and a number of others basically cut across half the pitch. Like being at a Thurlow Nunn game!

That's interesting, guess the legs aren't what they used to be. Kenlock should do the same now, I'm convinced of it.

I think Hoppers is joking above, but is it possible he's made more appearances for the club than they've played (i.e. if you include appearances for Wimbledon)?!

That would be a fun quiz fact if true.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Yea was really strange. I remember being free to wander the whole way around the pitch, a Town fan in a pink jumper getting some amusing stick from our lot and finding a fiver on the floor on the walk back to the car. Halcyon days.

I always thought he was a decent player, very good on the ball & certainly well up to the 2nd tier. Very unusual these days for a player to have a career like that at one club so I hope he's well recognised for it.

I live v near MK.... work opposite where the cow shed used to be. Its now an overflow car park and poss being used as Covid test centre.

As for Deano, have been to a few Dons games esp if Town are in Town and he's always been their best player. Strange he never got a bigger move.

He gave us a wave when we cheered him on in an almsot empty (even by Dons standards) stadium. Not one of us a dons fan.

How Ipswich could use a stadium like stadium MK though
