Covid safe in an enclosed cinema... 20:40 - Oct 23 with 1536 viewsBluesquid

but not outdoors in a 60,000 capacity stadium just a 10 minute walk away.

Absolute insanity.

"And people going to watch a game in a cinema, close to here, why can we not be sitting outside in the open air doing it?"

Or you could watch a match in the ground but without a view of the pitch

Surely it must be safer to space fans out inside an outdoor stadium as opposed to having them inside in an enclosed area?

Seems to be more about control than health.

But it is not restricted or prohibited though is it?

When sitting decently spaced apart in a large outdoor stadium is.

As i said, seems more about control than health.

It does seem utterly bonkers but I suspect it’s more about the inevitable inconsistencies in a quickly written and unprecedented law rather than part of a grand Machiavellian plan.

I mean, have you seen how thick most of the government are?

Those aren’t mutually exclusive.

I’m not denying that they’re horrible c**ts, I’m just doubting that they’re competent enough to be manipulating and exaggerating this pandemic in order to gain more control over their people.

I think it’s more likely that most of the cock ups are because they’re basically a group of nasty, talentless fcukwits whose only qualification for their hugely important job is that they support brexit and will toe the party line come what may.

The rules are discriminatory for sure, but who is more likely to turn up drunk, shout and scream and spread their germs, and generally disobey the rules - cinema goers or football fans?

Not sure your point is valid in these circumstances....who is going to go watch West Ham in a cinema beside the stadium other than fervent West Ham fans, who will have been drinking and will still shout nd spread their germs except it will be indoors. Doesn't logic suggest its better to have them outdoors, spaced further apart? We're only talking hundreds here I assume...

I think staying away from both is the safest idea. There is no such thing as covid-safe.

This is purely my speculation, but surely the issue isn't the sitting and watching the game, but the getting in out out of the stadium? Just think what it is like outside Portman Road after a game, even with only 10k - 15k in the ground.

But to start off with it would only be a few thousand, which other countries seem to be managing at the minute with no problems. The key thing is the procedures you have in place get them in and out and to space them around the stadium or just in two stands. Easy to do I think...whether its financially worthwhile for Prem teams I doubt, but very worthwhile for lower league teams.

Yet some clubs are opening bars at the ground for people to view the match - surely there are more entrances to access seats than the lounge areas? Saying that I guess less people will be able to view in bars than the ‘worthwhile’ point of opening the terraces.

And the important thing for Football League clubs is that it retains the direct engagement of fans with their club. An increasing number of people will be watching the multitude of Premier League games on TV & this will become a habit.

Staggered entry / exit times. There must be a way around some of this stuff. Think how much the pub experience has changed with table service, limited numbers etc ... surely football could do something similar to open safely ...

Staggering entry/exit times is fine in theory, but the larger the number of people, the greater the logistical challenge. I guess the thinking is that football fans will be drunk/unruly etc & turn up when they want. I'm not sure how many people will be willing to sit around in a 70% empty stadium before/after a game with no hospitality available.
