Trade Unions calling on nurseries to close 15:37 - Jan 5 with 789 views | ElderGrizzly | With immediate effect, except for Key Workers children and the vulnerable. Will be interesting how nurseries react, as I know our nursery has had zero cases since it reopened last summer and has really strict bubbles in place. I know not all will be able to operate in this way though. Back to the fun of a 3 year old and Teams calls :)

Trade Unions calling on nurseries to close on 15:59 - Jan 5 with 681 views | itfcjoe | From a selfish point of view, it would be next to impossible for me and my wife to work from home with 2 pre-school kids - they are only in 2 days a week currently but need that really! Only difference I'd say with them and schools are that the majority of nursery staff are much younger than teachers, nearly all under 30 - but guess they need to be extra careful with who they mix with outside work and if their living situation allows it

The problem with the age argument is that although the virus doesn't hit as hard, it still transmits all the same. So really, they are just a dangerous to carry a virus as anyone else.

They are in terms of transmission, but the small bubbles in nurseries compared to schools reduces that risk. All depends on the 'honesty' of parents and staff of course. I expect we will see them close, as it is the easier decision for the Govt to take.

The problem is, people aren't universally taking lockdown seriously. The amount of traffic on the road this morning was much greater than that of the first shield lockdown, which this seems to be very similar to in the rules. The government's consistent umming and arring with u turn after u turn is leading people to be confused and not fully appreciating the position we're in, and knew we'd be in, with virus infections being typically worse in the winter [Post edited 5 Jan 2021 16:11]

It is different from the 1st lockdown though. Many many more business sectors are open legitimately (if not sensibly) In the first lockdown, for the first month literally everything was shut as it was so new to everyone. Now you have nurseries open, construction, small trades, Garden Centres, DIY stores etc etc [Post edited 5 Jan 2021 16:13]

My old dear works in a nursery part time in town, and I have to say I am worried about her going in (although she does assure me they have all things in place at work).
