You go down to 10men, how would you set up? 08:21 - Jan 27 with 861 viewsIPSWICHFANITFC

Just curious to see how people would approach the game after going down to 10 men.

I personally felt that what we tried to do wasn't bad, just killed us when they score just before HT. I felt Thomas and Edwards could've played a bit narrower though at times when we had the ball, but I understand then we lose width too.

I'd personally go to 3-4-2 if we went down to 10 men.

I'd have gone

Holy
Chambers, Woolfy, McGuiness
Downes, Nolan
Thomas Dozzell Edwards
Sears

Take the game to Sunderland and make it appear like we have 11 outfield players

4-4-1, Either Dozzell or Nolan to come off for a striker.

Who deals with their wide men though? Thomas and Edwards would be pinned back and that would leave Sears isolated.

You need a focal point as proven in the 2nd half - needs to be 441 in reality unless you are happy to just try and stay in the game at 0-0

See I feel 3-4-2 has some use. I agree with the focal point - but then you need others to join otherwise the opposition just recycle the ball at the back and get playing without us progressing up the field.

3 at the back - can deal with 1, 2 or 3 up front (take a chance on 3 v 3), 4 across midfield with the 2 CM's blocking passing lanes into the central attackers and the 2 wide men offering support for the wide CB's in the 3 - whilst providing width the other way. 2 up top to stay close together, providing an increased chance of retaining the ball with suitable outlets whilst defensively they can form a square central block with the CM's to push the ball wide or long.

You stick you biggest lump up top to try and make the ball stick you then need you fittest quick creative player to play in the 10 centrally you midfielders all then sit across the line. The sub should have been Drinan for Edwards and move Thomas centrally in behind. Dling nothing showed a lack of ideas. I would have probably then looked at Bishop for Dozzell later on to try and get an equaliser.

Injuries and fitness levels may have changed this though

3-5-1.

See I would've gone to something like this:

Holy
Woolfenden - Chambers - McGuinness
Edwards - Downes - Dozzell - Ward
Thomas - Drinan

Sub: Drinan for Nolan

Haha!

Some cracking FM21 players on this thread.

I think what we did was fine until we went behind also. At half time would’ve put Sears and drinan up front taken off Nolan and Dozzell and just played really direct, bypass the midfield hoof ball!

I have no doubt that Lambert has a better idea of what to do than myself, his time sis still up however!
