This scheme has been around for donkey's years in one form or another. When I was at the sharp end of stuff you had to be a charge on the taxpayer to access the scheme, ie on benefits.
I did actually interview one chap who was requesting repatriation. Unfortunately for him he hadn't quite grasped what 'repatriation' means. He, having been born in Jamaica, hoped to be repatriated to Ethiopia in line with his Rastafarian beliefs. |  |

Although not EU citizens, my wife is trying to use this scheme to help a family of Hondurans get home. For them the £2k will make a big difference.
