When are we expecting more to be approved? We just need to get them through and get 100m+ out and ready to go. Seems to have been a while now and the last one approved does not have any doses available under April/May? [Post edited 28 Jan 2021 21:27]

We didn't buy the moderna one early like other countries so have to wait our turn.

Here's an update on what we have on order. I know it's early days but I'm feeling very positive about the future.

Me too. We should have a good number left over to send around the world as well.

J&J i think is the only single dose one and has shown 90%+ in trials so far. All very good news, as there was concern Novavax was going to be monopolised by the USA as they gave it £1.6bn through their Op Warpspeed.

It can’t be underestimated how well these vaccine companies have done. And as mentioned earlier, the 50m or so of the population who need the doses (U16s unlikely to get one, unless vulnerable) will have enough to have a booster later this year which is the thought right now of scientists.

Especially when you consider all the talk back in the summer of "we can't be sure that it will be possible to create an effective vaccine". Multiple types of vaccine of different technologies are proving effective. Just goes to show what can be done with a real concerted effort, dare I say, not aimed at profit. Now if we could only find a vaccine to save the environment...

The vaccine to save the environment, is to remove the human race sadly.

It’s fascinating that 10 years ago this just wouldn’t have happened as quickly. I was talking to neighbour, who I think is quite high up with Sanofi (?) and thinks they’ll eventually take over a large proportion of the vaccines going forwards, they make the flu one each year. Apparently that has to be updated each year as there are always a number of variants and they chose which one to base the vaccine on. Up until now (I think still, not sure how well I took this in) they’ve used eggs to grow the virus to produce the flu vaccine, he’s says they go through thousands a day. (Just read this has been used as a process for 70 years.) Think this is a good read, explaining how the vaccine was able to be produced so quickly compared to the flu vaccine. https://www.cambridgeconsultants.com/insights/opinion/no-more-walking-eggshells-

You'll be getting the Lambovax that's currently in development.

99% effective, but you can't get it into the arm.

Ah, but a contract is a contract. If they don’t play nicely, we can just take our share from the EU supplies can’t we? Bit like grabbing sun beds or elbowing their way to the front of ski lift queues. On a serious note, the Novavax and J&J vaccines both look very promising. The former has been tested on all age ranges, works well with gaps between doses and does well with new variants and people with immune deficiency. It’s to be produced in Stockton, I believe with 60k doses for the U.K. Amazing achievement by all involved in producing vaccines - and distributing them. Within a few months there will be plenty of vaccine which makes me wonder why the EU are getting so hysterical now? I just hope any surplus goes to where it’s needed most and quickly.

Because they can't be seen to 'lose' to the UK. The anti EU movements in other countries can't be allowed to see the UK do better outside the bloc. And yes remainers, it's only one issue and it's not a contest that can be won but that doesn't make what i've said any less true. [Post edited 29 Jan 2021 0:49]
