I'm sure they'd keep their counsel on the subject, other than perhaps to make it known they'd be interested. They'd not want to do anything which might lead to their professionalism being questioned.
I know at least one candidate when the job came up in 2018 was annoyed that it got out, me having reported it on here and it spread from there.

Is it because Evans effectively lets his 1st team managers run the club instead of running it himself? You would have thought he would have learned his lesson after Keane got rid of one of our greatest assets in Brian Klug. [Post edited 11 Feb 2021 12:01]
