The lockdown lifting announcement 08:14 - Feb 22 with 3421 viewsBluefish

Waste of time. Went out for a couple of walks this weekend and saw plenty already doing the things that are being proposed. All sorts of ages but a couple of big groups in particular of about 18-25. Also seeing friends happily posting pictures with non household family indoors nd outdoors

What point are you making?

Because a few people are currently breaking the rules we should all remain in lockdown?

You aware the vast majority of people are following the rules right?

Same with every lockdown so far the boundaries start to get pushed ahead of the lifting and just ends up being ignored. People seem to act on what they hear is coming up opposed to what is now.

Household mixing will probably be commonplace in a couple of weeks

The government is not respected and doesn't have control

Do you not think they factor that in to their announcements/policies/rukes?

Apart from getting schools back, we effectively are still effectively in lockdown until 29th March. People are already obviously "exercising" so that they get some social company.

Some people, for sure. An activity that is now accepted to have an extremely low risk of transmission.

We are going to have a spring/summer where pretty much the only legal socialising will be outdoors, reason being that it is regarded as safe, irrespective of how much some people think otherwise.

Hence my reply to Fishers, his over worrying over a low risk activity wont do him any good, but appreciate it is widespread given the public messaging we continue to see.

Things changed almost immediately here as soon as the mercury hit about 15C. Lots of groups of younger people drinking in front gardens and in the parks. I am sure some older people were at it as well but perhaps less obviously, not fair to just pin it on the youngsters.

As you say though, the vast majority are following the rules, I suspect the police will just have to start moving on the groups in the parks and gardens although can't blame them for wanting to take advantage of the sunshine.

There are a number of issues and difficulties with continuing the lockdown.

I like the proposed rule of 6 outdoors suggestion. Easy to understand and easy to police too. And I think people will accept it and stick to it. The alternative is wider rule breaking if people dont buy into/accept the rules.

Although the rule of 6 doesn't count outdoors if it is 2 families. Then there is no size limit, so if your 2 families = 10, that is ok.

Expect to see lots of 3rd cousins twice removed being found :)

Still makes me laugh when people talk about visiting their parents or friends because they are in the same bubble. Either the messaging was poor or we aren't a very bright nation

Well, that will make it harder, no argument.

But the alternative and genuine risk, is you push much needed social contact indoors, which would potentially have disastrous consequences.

If it remained just 2 people through the summer, I think significantly more people would illegally start meeting up in groups indoors. The outside rule of 6 will allow contact but in a safe way.

I know some wont be happy and will worry, but they are welcome not to meet up with people if they so chose.

Isn't it 2 households, not 2 families?

Or, some people interpret (or, more accurately, re-write) the rules to suit themselves. I know one couple who decided their 20-something son could come and stay with them "because he's in our bubble".
The aim of the rules is to control the spread of COVID, not eliminate it & if the majority abide by something close to the rules, it doesn't matter if a few ignore them (however much that will irritate those who follow them stringently). It's pretty much received wisdom that outside socialising has a minimal risk of spreading COVID so people should get less antsy about people congregating in parks or on beaches.

Sorry, I was treating family as a household unit in my head.

So, yes it will in theory be easier to 'police'

My parents happen to be our childcare bubble. We don't go in their house, just Grizz Jr does.

It's ridiculous of course from a risk perspective as the transmission point is the kid.

Yep, but should mean easy to tell from adults - some of our close friends have 3 kids or 4 kids so means we can see them within the rules as kids count towards it, or did latterly last time.

Otherwise we have the silly situation when our 2 boys and their 2 eldest spend all day together twice a week at nursery but they can't sit in our garden...!

If their son lives on his own, and neither he nor they have formed one with someone else, then they’re quite within the rules to form a support bubble with him, and have him stay over.

Always going to be umpteen contradictions in COVID-type rules. The alternative is to have rules several hundred pages long, prepared by lawyers, which arrive months after the crisis & which no-one is going to read. The objective is to control the spread & as long as the majority follow the spirit of the rules, that will happen.

Yes exactly.
Local playgrounds were packed this weekend. But no different to a nursery is it - perhaps better as it's outside.

Parents naturally bump into people they know. Nobody is hugging and kissing and from what I witnessed being sensible.

That is exactly what I see and how I interpret it too But to some, the same scene is rule breaking and the cause of the disease spreading etc.

See also people sitting in parks,,on beaches, kids hanging out on corners chatting etc.

And we are going to have a whole summer of it!

humans who live under non-authoritarian regimes are not going to accept endless solitary confinement. Meeting people socially outside, while maintaining distance, is a relatively safe way for people to enjoy some alternative human company from their household. I don't think any logical person should worry about this.

Confession time: I met up with my Mum and brother in the park yesterday and took my boy. We had coffee, cake and played football. Everyone left happier.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

I don't see it as spreading the disease, but it is rule breaking, and I totally understand why that's annoying to those trying hard to do things by the book
