If there was ever a move that will alienate a large percentage of the population against what you are protesting over then this is it.

Really doesn’t look like it to me. Which does matter given how protest in the UK is being delegitimized and threatened.

But the only opinion I'm attaching to my comments is 'we're not sure what actually happened'. I don't see how that's offensive or counter to a cause I agree with.

Nah. Not buying it. You’ve even edited the post to add an additional and unconnected smear.

I already know that there are will be some bad faith actors on both sides of any major issue. You don’t need to keep confirming it.

Don't shoot the messenger darth. I'll be honest: I winced when I read lowhouse's comment for the first time, but then i went twitter travelling and read comments from women who said they were there for the vigil but left because of the behaviour of some men. They could be fantasists, but I really think this is one where you had to be there to know the truth.

you only needed to view the videos. same old, same old. a nasty group who always turn up and who's behaviour undermines the legitimate protests of others.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I suggest you read up on that Twitter thread some more - to write off one a woman's expeirence of a man as smears is very unbecoming. Check his twitter - he admits and apologises for his behaviour.

As a father of three daughters, you should probably stop throwing women under the bus to score political points.

I’m not having that Koonters. I dint want to live in a world where my teenage daughters can’t walk home from their friends at night. Or my wife can’t exercise in certain areas after dark as I can.

Until you came onto this thread people were discussing things in a respectful manner. Then you jump in with your massive grudge against me and try to twist what I posted for your own agenda.

Look I know you hold me responsible for playing a part in the your imaginary Israel lobby’ smear campaign to discredit Jeremy Corbyn (antisemitic trope alert) but there is a certain irony in you accusing me of throwing women under the bus whilst defending to the max Nicola Sturgeon’s handling of sex allegations (another cover up reported over the weekend) and your constant attempts to delegitimise complaints of misogynistic antisemitic abuse received by Margaret Hodge and Luciana Berger, who were referred to as “sh1t-stirring cum buckets bought and paid for by Israel”.

You’re a rank hypocrite. You are a supporter of womens rights, except for when they are Jewish or the victims of abuse that may be inconvenient to your political beliefs.

In every thread on the subject of reclaim the streets I have done nothing but give 100% support to the cause they are fighting for and condemned the actions of the Met on Saturday night.

I linked a story about Churchill statue being protected with the view that that sort of thing will do nothing but alienate people from a very worthwhile cause. I didn’t say that the women protesting were instigating an attack in the Churchill statue. Having seen men there with “Free Asange” banners (oh the irony) I don’t doubt that the usual rent-a-mob have tagged along for their own agenda.

Are you a passionate supporter of Ipswich Town FC? Do you support hoolies who have no interest in Ipswich or football who go along to cause trouble or do you condemn them, believing that they will give the club a bad name? If you di then I certainly wouldn’t accuse you of throwing football supporters under the bus.

And one last point. You accused me of linking a story from a right wing media outlet. It isn’t. It’s an outlet that simply tweets news stories as they come in. On the same night they tweeted stories from Evolve, the guardian, the mirror etc. Whereas the that you came back with was from a novara media blogger (oh the irony of being accused of linking biased media). It was a tweet taking some time after the crowds had dispersed. And yet you have the nerve to accuse me of linking misleading videos.

The SWP were there in numbers (as they always are at any protest) and they're well known as sexual assault apologists. It's pretty scummy for them to have turned up at all and it made some women there feel uncomfortable from what I can see on Twitter.

This is not a defence of posting officers in front of the Churchill statue. I think the actions of posting female officers in front of it is pure culture war nonsense and really shouldn't be a priority, but there are some nasty pieces of work on the left as well as the right and to pretend otherwise is just plain daft.

Really? Four arrests out of hundreds protesting, and 3 of those were for coronavirus breaches. Doesn't sound like a "nasty group of far left thugs" to me.

This is a rights grab bill that is against the interests of everyone. Do you realise this bill means that you don't have to actually cause any harm or annoyance to be arrested and face up to 10 years in jail? The police only need to think there's a possible risk of causing annoyance. It's madness. I'm surprised there aren't far more people up in arms over it.

The same thing happened to me the “Refugees Are Welcome” march at Westminster in 2016. It was a peaceful rally organised by Refugee Action. We had banners with positive messages and a variety of speakers. There was a SWO presence who were handing out generic “Tories Are Nazis” banners. They weren’t interested in a refugee Action.

I’m sure they put off a lot of decent people who just wanted to highlight the plight of refugees.

I said it was appalling that Berger was getting antisemitic abuse and death threats from the far right. Any abuse she was getting from those on the left is abhorrent too.

But no, on Labour antisemitism, I don’t trust her because of how she presented stuff that is in the public record. She clearly became far too invested in the factionalism and I’m glad she’s not a Labour MP anymore on those grounds.

Quite. Unless you're there it's hard to know. On the one hand there was 1 reported arrest for violence in a crowd of hundreds. On the other there are some crusties on videos that people don't like the look of. There may have been some trouble makers there for all we know, but they didn't cause much trouble based on the arrests. Judge people by their actions.

I went down some twitter rabbit holes last night and many women were saying the same as lowhouse: that there were men there with other causes and more violent intent than was appropriate for a vigil.

Who knows what the truth was, but I'd keep an open mind unless you were there.

Edit: during my twitter journey, I also came across this exchange. Beware of w@nker say-the-right-things men:

All the political point scoring around this horrific chain of events is utterly disgusting - a young woman needlessly lost her life, that is where the outrage and disdain should begin and end - over analyses and positioning a bias by wanna be journalists on Social Media is the mark of a weak and maladjusted society.

It was peaceful and the police aggression was the catalyst to issues.

These are issues that first bubbled to the surface in the 1970s for women’s rights that are still unaddressed. If I were a woman I’d probably be a bit fed up of being told how I should feel or act by men too.
