Politically this is hardly going to help matters between London and Brussels - and there is the Pfizer warning the UK government could block components in a tit-for-tat response.

I would rather give them to a third world country who have a genuine excuse for not being in the vaccine loop.

Agree but it might help build some bridges. Perhaps we could do both. It would be interesting to see if the EU would accept us gifting them vaccines. Let's not pretend there hasn't been some politics at play in all this.

Vaccine Wars is going up a notch on 17:37 - Mar 25 by Lord_Lucan | I skim read pretty much every paper online every day. People moan about The Mail but it isn't that bad really, The Express makes The Mail look like The Morning Star. Must admit I find The Express and The Guardian both very poor with their false headlines and coverage. I think out of all I prefer The Metro. |
Agree The Metro is ok and a good 'quick read'. They distribute it at the hospital and often have a read and coffee. To judge anyone by the newspaper they read is rather tedious and often of course incorrect.

Agree. I don't read newspapers as we live in a world of 24/7 rolling news but they have their place. I wouldn't be bothered going to buy my nan her Daily Mail. Ridiculous thing to care about.

The Mail's changed a bit since Dacre left. They even dare criticise the PM now on the front page. Some of there columnists are still *bellends/Tory sycophants/culture war stirrers/hateful/bigoted (delete as appropriate). They even employ Chris Sutton ffs, so must be wrong uns!

Sorry if this is an obvious thought that already occured to everyone else, but maybe that's what they always had their eye on? As far as I remember reading, AZ in the UK makes c.2m doses each week, so what exactly did the EU sensibly want from that and in return for how much from Holland?! If they've always wanted this new one off us, knowing it was in the offing, it suddenly all makes sense. [Post edited 25 Mar 2021 18:23]

People need to stop referring to EU vaccines or UK vaccines. They are vaccines produced by private companies that happened to be made in a particular country.

I used to know a bloke (now brown bread) who was then (back in the 80's) exactly how Farage is now - they even look similar. He used to read The Daily Mirror. DalaiFarmer, who was a big time Socialist used to read The Daily Mail front to back every day without fail. Not sure what paper I would read if I bought one, probably The Times. I used to quite like The Today - but it was so long ago, and it might have been because it was the first and only Blue Top.

I buy The Times on a Saturday, and to be honest do not get the time (no pun intended) to read a newspaper during the week, and prefer print to online (same as book v kindle.) Amazing that everyone is scared or even scarred to admit reading The Sun on here and yet a few million do. Oh dear am showing my ignorance in never having heard of DalaiFarmer; is he related to Lama!

Quite. The company owns them and they chose who to sell them to, as then finalised in contracts with various countries. And then if they break those contracts or if the country wants to break those contracts, each case needs to be considered in the context of the original contract. Or we could politicise it and call each other bellends I suppose, depending on which 'side' we're each on (arguments and mild abuse are so much more exciting than contractual disputes after all )

Not exactly. He was just an old mate of mine who was a regular poster but died prematurely 10 years back.

Precisely the angle one would expect from someone whose nan reads the Mail.
