Rebecca Welch will be the first woman to referee in the EFL 17:31 - Mar 30 with 1561 views | Steve_M | Good for her, although no doubt it will provide a simple excuse for some of football's terminally stupid if they lose that match.

She started the match running the line.

I will tell you one thing, they seem to get a lot more respect from the players than their male counterparts! I've seen Abi Marriot (from Mildenhall) ref at Step 3 and she is one of the best local refs around in my opinion.

She'll probably feel more accepted if people question her decisions. (In an ideal world, none of the refs should get abuse)

Seconded on Abi. I haven’t seen her ref at that level but she was excellent even as a youngster at much lower levels.

I remember going to the Brum game when Jewell was slagging Fearn off, said to Rashids other half (Gary) the next morning at work, how terrible female refs were - he just laughed !! | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Rebecca Welch will be the first woman to referee in the EFL on 06:00 - Mar 31 with 1030 views | peterleeblue | Congratulations to Rebecca. I have worked with Rebecca as she was coming through. She is a very talented match official and deserves the opportunity. From what I have seen for Female match officials if they are good then they get a lot of respect and are well promoted through the local leagues by club officials and their reputation precedes them. On the other hand I have seen some female officials initially struggle and if then when they improve the die is generally cast and they struggle to shake of the perception. My level affords my the opportunity to asst at Women's Championship level. I am hoping to be promoted in both the men's and women's game and that would take me to Conference North / Women's Premiership respectively. The women's game at the top level is hugely high profile now and it is something I would love to be more involved in
