Long Covid in the squad 12:17 - Apr 3 with 1323 views | chrismakin | I've looked around but can't see any firm figures, but does anyone remember how many players we've had this season who has suffered from Covid and potentially could still be feeling the effects? Lambert was quite clearly suffering for a long while as manager, and I've just read a news piece about long covid sufferers, so I was just curious if it's something that could have hit out squad more than it has been spoken about.

Weren't Newcastle saying they reckoned Allan Saint-Maximim had been suffering from it?

There’s a bit of research around American college football where myocarditis was discovered and vo2 max affected in athletes that had COVID without displaying any symptoms. It’s on of the reasons I told my athletes to stay safe, even though they’re healthy and unlikely to be poorly, don’t risk long term health just in case this stuff (which we’re learning about all the time) turns out to be significant. These were elite level athletes, top vo2, who due to this scarring became just ‘good’. The trouble is, the vo2 can be measured and perhaps the drop attributed to fitness, but the scarring can only be seen on expensive scanning equipment. I do wonder if some athletes are trying to get back to previous levels but due to this possible issue, are unable to until fully recovered, if ever.
