Possibly. But can we justify offering a Championship wage to him to make it happen? I'm not sure on that one. If he was 24 then maybe, the potential upside and resale value is there, but he's pushing 28 and has a very patchy record prior to the season just gone. Blowing a decent chunk of our budget on him to compete with Championship sides looks risky.

Our general problem in a nutshell. That's going to be the case for almost everyone we want.

True dis. It's why I still can't quite fathom the enthusiasm for having a fire sale of several players already at the club who ought to be good enough for what we want to achieve and who ought to be a lot better with a proper preseason and some decent coaching behind them. This isn't going to be a straightforward rebuild.

I would. The priority should be getting promotion next season and if he's been scoring goals for fun at Wimbledon then he should have a field day here if he's surrounded by better players. His goal scoring record doesn't look any less patchy to me than Charlie Wyke's. Everything is a risk but I definitely think it's a risk worth taking.

Would be a good signing for Watford.

They've never really replaced Paul Furlong.

I think there's perhaps an element of that. Or Kieffer Moore would be another example. Coincidentally I did some coaching at Charlton when he was there, albeit at academy level. It didn't work out for him there, but important to remember they were a competitive Championship side for the most part of that, and he's earned his stripes in the lower leagues since.

Whenever I've seen him play for Wimbledon he looks a real handful, and a good footballer. So much of it is about getting a rub, making the right move and that bit of confidence. Had Moore not taken that Rotherham loan, or that hattrick debut things might've worked out very differently for him.

I think that target man role is a tough one and one you get better at as you get older - I remember being impressed with on loan at Gillingham which must have been somewhere around 2013 so he's been around a long time.

I anticipate he'll go tho the Championship, be a squad player somewhere and score 7-8 goals next season, but have signed a 3-4 year deal which sets him up after a decade in 3rd and 4th tier

He'd be a good bet at the Derby.
