Best we nearly signed them 11 21:33 - Jun 1 with 4289 views

Anyone got any thoughts?.... those players that we never quite got in the door but wish we had.

So far I've got

Gazza, Guillit, Kevin Phillips, George Boyd and Batistuta.

Not sure we were ever close to signing Batistuta really? Think Robson said no to Gazza as a kid and did want to sign Guillit.

Sheepy couldn't get Phillips done and George Boyd of course turned into Paul Taylor, the swing in quality alone warrants his inclusion.

Anyone else that's deserves a mention?

No wishful thinking, only those we were at least close to signing

Wasn't Cashdrool in 2001 after our 5th place? That's how we ended up with Finidi?

He was, as good as signed and then Villa offered more cash if I remember correctly.

I have a vague recollection that we looked at Claude Makalele when he was at Celta Vigo the season after we finished fifth. But alas he went to Real Madrid and went on to have a mediocre career ðŸ¤£
