I love it when these big time Charlie’s get brought down earth.

Yeah it’s great to see our footballers get brought down to earth and go to clubs in the leagues above us isn’t it.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

What is "correctly" in this context? All we know for sure is he put in a transfer request last season, which he's well within his rights to do.

If transfer requests are the route he wishes to go down to force a move through, then that’s his discretion but not something I like to see. He notified the club very shortly after the season ended of his desire to move again this summer window.

If you are happy with Town being run like that, allowing players to try and force moves through, and then try and get them back on side, and then go through that process again this summer, then it’s a non-start debate for me because we clearly see things very differently on how a club should be run.

Thankfully, Paul Cook won’t accept that sort of approach either and Downes is with the u23 side until his agent can secure a move.

Transfer requests mean players waive their right to a loyalty bonus, most players don't bother they just keep quiet, let their agent do the work and then pocket that money anyway.

I want to see this club run professionally. That means maximising the value of our assets, sticking to our guns when we value a player, getting players to fulfil the terms of the contracts they sign and finding ways to get the best out of our players when they're on our books.

It doesn't mean selling players under their value just because they want it and it doesn't mean sitting here watching their value decrease because we've taken offence at a demand to leave.

Don’t they also waive a percentage of the transfer fee? ( Or maybe that’s the same thing.) I remember it as being a sizeable percentage, 10% maybe, but I’m going back a bit.

Has he actually handed in another transfer request?

Not as far as I know. As I understand it, the player usually negotiates a signing-on fee separate from the transfer fee. It's the agent who sometimes (usually?) takes a cut of the transfer fee, ostensibly as a reward from the 2 clubs involved for their work facilitating the transfer.

It'll be any loyalty bonuses stipulated in the player's contract with the selling club that will be waived.

It's a pertinent question, there seems to be little evidence of this. And if Cook has told every player they are welcome to find another club then I really can't see why he would need to.

That's what I thought, seems completely unnecessary to hand one in.

What makes him a big time Charlie? Because he wanted to leave the club following a period of mismanagement at every levels so he could actually work on developing his career?

Im sure a fair number of us felt the same level of disillusion with the club too.

Young, Ambitious, Needing to Develop is not good at a club with no structure and in decline. At his age, he doesn't have time to see if gamechanger will come good if he wants to reach his potential, non of those lads on the 22/23 age band do.
