How many test teams have been bowled out for under 100 on the first day? (I know we haven't done so yet!)

Just had a quick look and see under 100 on first innings batting first is not so rare after all. Not sure how many won the toss as well!

Bangladesh in Antigua 2018 all out for 43 is only the 3rd lowest first innings total (although the other two may have been batting second).

Pakistan 2002 Sharjah v Aus. 59 all out on day 1. Aus scored 310 and then bowled Pakistan out again for 53 within the second day. The lowest total in two completed test innings of 112.

A nice steady 50 or so without a wicket would be decent.

Level without losing a wicket and then a misfield sees England into the lead. Obviously the England fans were hugely sympathetic.

Been a good day so far.

100 run opening partnership. Great stuff from Hameed especially. Great to see.

Reminds me of when I saw the cricket score after waking up on Boxing Day 2010.

Which was the last time we passed an opposition score with no wickets down.

Streaky way to get to 50 but good for him. Seemed a lot more settled and less nervous than when coming out at number 3 last test.

I remember my sister saying when seeing England walk off at the end of the day at 157/0 “that is slow going”. I did say there were rain delays and we had to bowl them out first...

The crowd sounds like it’s at the end of T20 finals day. The drinking section at the end of the Western Terrace are presumably leading the way.

Highest opening partnership since 180 ( think I heard that right ) made in 2016 in Rajkot by Cook and ……….Hameed! That is over a 100 innings ago.

Superb, Jimmy Anderson will be missed so much when he retires even though England have arguably the best strength in dept for seam bowling in the world. Broad, who like Jimmy can't go on for ever, Stokes, Archer and wood, Plus Woakes who is arguably a front line bowler on his day all not in the side for various reasons

When Broad and Jimmy retire, even with the options available to them, England may take a couple of years to get over it.

Windies with Ambrose and Walsh

Aus McGrath and Lee

Pakistan Wasim Akram and Waqar Yonunis

Great pace attacks are built on great pairs, enjoy them whilst we can.

Great to see Hameed get off to a good start, he could hold that slot for years if he can step up. Burns needs to convert his now to show he can make big runs a good 70 odd doesn't feel enough now for him to show he should be opening.

Beware the morning session, hope for sunshine.

I think this is part of the problem for England - that Broad is likely to go around the same time as Anderson. I can't see Broad lasting to the same age as Jimmy. As you also recognise, we have at least brought others through. Giving some rest to Anderson and Broad at times has helped with this too.

It will be interesting to see if Stokes can return and whether he will be the same player.

Going to put my neck on the line and suggest that might be England’s day!? 😉 Burns and Hameed looked so controlled and comfortable at the crease. Let’s hope we keep piling the runs on and grind the Indians into the dirt.

That really is amazing. Well done to both, but esp Hameed - & the selectors for giving him another chance 👍
