And that feeling (after a start that had some concerns) I can honestly say hand on heart that I am not missing any player we released over the summer, some of those released I loved more than others, a few I would have loved to have stayed but it wasn't to be, no matter where we finish this season I absolutely think one of the craziest things done by a manager of our club in my 44 year ( and counting) following and 33 years at Portman Road watching us history was the right thing to do for Ipswich Town Football Club!!

I'd have kept Chambers and Skuse.

Chambers as Player Liason offcer and Skuse to do his badges and work with the kids.

not hope in hell PC and LC could have worked like that IMO

I think Skuse is the one who could've been a Simon Milton style figure around the club over time that would have been valuable in that sort of role - and he has the Bristol City connections!

Would have kept Downes if he wanted to stay but no one else, tempted by Gwion as on form he is a good fit for the Cook system, but sounds like he’s not getting much game time at Wigan so the right call

Gwion couldn't cross the ball though and had terrible touch. Just saying

It's amazing really when you consider they've all stepped down a division, and will also not have the gelling issues, that they're not tearing up that league. Even with youth not on their side, the extra quality and experience you'd think would be enough to get them past League 2 cloggers. I don't know League 2 much but I can't imagine there's a lot of quality down there.

It seems less surprising now that neither Lambert or Cook could get much out of them in the league above.

And some on this board think that this buch should have got us into the play offs last season and blamed the failure on Cook, LMFAO.

Didn't Lambert get sacked for underachieving when we were only a point or so outside the play offs?

So do you think Lambert was overachieving then? You clearly find the idea that last season's squad could make the play offs laughable and yet he had us only just outside the play off places, I think with a game in hand, and with a run in playing precisely the kinds of teams we usually beat under Lambert. You must have been well chuffed with the job he was doing, getting that bunch of wasters right in contention.

At the end of the day we weren't in the play offs. I think there were very few excited by the prospect of them at the time because most of us thought we weren't good enough.

Regardless, they're not looking good enough for the play offs in League 2, so the idea that they were good enough for the play offs in League 1 until that nasty Mr. Cook came along looks decidedly wide of the mark, as many of us said at the time.

Unfortunately there's quite a few on here who just dump the blame on whoever happens to be in the hotseat right now rather than look at the bigger picture, which is years of decline.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

By all accounts it was Gill who was pulling the strings at this point, Lambert had just about given up........ allegedly.

Only really Chambers and Judge who had started regularly and had offers from clubs in higher divisions.

Colchester chairman seems to be running the club into the ground - their lowest attendance for 20 odd years, nothing at all on matchday, not allowed to sit near people, can't choose seats or anything.

I was going to head along for a game but just so much hassle - and think watching Frank Nouble up front on his own would send me over the edge

They are a completely soulless club now. The move from Layer Road has also seen them lose a significant competitive advantage. It was a horrible place to go and play football, especially when the place was packed out. The Jobserve couldn't be anything further from that.

It's pretty damning they get smaller crowds now than they did at Layer Road.

You talk about 'they' at Colchester like they signed our whole team - Skuse started one game and Sears was well down the pecking order. I think expecting a 36 year old Luke Chambers and Alan Judge to go in there and lead them to promotion was always going to be fanciful.

The 'they' who weren't good enough for the play offs (even though we were 7th when Cook came in and had an easy run in) are all over the place, not just at Colchester

Sounds as though this year, and since Covid the chairman has chucked the towel in.

- No shuttle buses running
- No programmes
- No matchday entertainment at all
- No tannoy system in use
- Nothing on big screens
- No ability to choose your seat and sit with people, all bubbled
- No burger vans
- Bars shut which were popular
- No Eddie the Eagle or whatever mascot is called for the kids
- Online only tickets, no print at home option, ticket office shut
- Not cheap either ticket wise
- Totally cashless stadium
- Frank Nouble up front on his own

They are a shell of a club at the moment, they used to be good at getting kids in and making it a fun place to go regardless of the football on display

I saw most of them get a lucky/scrappy win at Barrow about 6 weeks back

- Chambers got sent off
- Judge anonymous but scored a tap in
- Sears was decent, scored one i think and set up the Judge tap in
- Skuse got caught being slow a couple of times and ended up pressing heads together for 30 seconds with home sides midfielder - both should have got red. Improved 2nd half

I wasn't really aiming it specifically at comments like yours but people like Mach who post nonsense like:

"These utter wasters will still be welcomed like heroes by some when they come back to PR in 3 weeks time for the Pizza Cup game."

Or this one:
"Both those players had been part of a club failing over a very long period and then choose to go to colchester!?!"

Yes, how strange that two players with families who have settled in the area and who are obviously coming to the end of their careers choose to go to a side local enough so they don't have to uproot their families when they've probably got maybe a year left in them. The idea that Chambers and Skuse were part of the problem with this club is mind boggling to me.

But Herbivore, what did Lambert achieve?? Is a point outside a play off place any kind of success in footballing terms?? Lambert was great bringing a spirit back to the club and us fans so for me that counts as a success! To say "our run in with precisely the kind of teams we usually be under Lambert" is such a stupid thing to say given the unpredictability of any football match, I'm afraid your point is moot unless you happen to have a crystal ball!!

I saw progression under Lambert and he brought a lot of hope back for me with his style of play sometimes but history dictates we will never know if that progression was good enough to take last seasons squad into the play off's.

Players were never the problem, none of them were wasters a couple no longer had their hearts in our club but I agree posts slating the players to that extreme are way off the mark, our new owners highlight and a lot of our fans knew where the problem laid.

As much as Evans was our saviour to start he was our major villain in the end.

My point is that there's some impressive cognitive dissonance from some of our fans who manage to simultaneously believe that last season's squad was terrible and that Lambert was underachieving and deserved to be sacked at a point in time where we were 7th with a game in hand. They have to believe both of those things to be true in order to worship at the altar of St Paul IV because if the squad wasn't terrible then Cook clearly did a poor job last season but if the squad was genuinely terrible then Lambert was overachieving and they were wrong to think he should be sacked. At this pout their brain short circuits and they stop answering any questions about these contradictory beliefs they hold.
